The name of the project is “v-Makeup using Smart Mirror”. We will utilize this solution in beauty salons and cosmetic shops because of the current situation of COVID-19. Due to social distancing requirements, buying beauty products is very confusing for the women. Women can not try samples of different lipsticks, shades and bases etc. because of the danger of virus spreading to other customers. The solution can also help beauticians as they can make recommendations to the satisfaction of the clients. Before starting the make-up session, the client can use this mirror to explore multiple make-up looks on their faces similar to technologies like Snapchat filters and beauty cam etc.

The cameras in the mirror which will detect the face of a person sitting behind this mirror. We can perhaps encode some makeup looks, and cosmetic brand numbers of the specific products like lipsticks, eye-shadow, bases etc.

This mirror will also display the weather, date & time, news etc. on the go. The mirror will also assist the user through voice commands to generate recommendations.

Project Objectives

Our Project's main objective is/was to work innovatively. To bring about something this would need our full attention and focus throughout the project.

Our objectives to choose this project are:

  1. Having command on the Raspberry Pi System by the end of this project.
  2.  A solution for beauty salons and cosmetic shops for the facilitation of clients

Objectives of choosing v-Makeup Smart Mirror as a project:

  1. Introducing a new innovative way of using technology at cosmetic shops & Beauty salon.
  2. Having access to your day to day news/weather right on your mirror instead of actually going through the hassle of checking it out yourself.
  3. Moving onto technological ways from traditional ones. Just like in traditional days, we used to check out our calendars for viewing the dates and clocks for checking the time, and for news and weather we go to news apps, this mirror will allow viewing all these things in one place without having to go through the difficulty of doing all of this from different apps.   
  4. This kind of mirror can be created in a customized way as well. Hence, this can be utilized in any industry, anyone can get it designed as per their needs. Since we are designing it for the general or specifically for Beauty Salons & Cosmetic shops use, hence the features have been kept very easy and basic.
Project Implementation Method

Project Implementation will be done in the following way:

  1. Hardware Configuration

Hardware Configuration will require the following things:

  1. Raspberry Pi 4
  2. SD Card
  3. Touch Screen LED/LCD
  4. Two way Glass for Mirror
  5. HDMI Cable
  6. Regular Glass with Reflective Film
  7. PIR Motion Sensor
  8. Microphone

These are some of the major components that we would need throughout the process.

2. Software Requirements

  1. Raspbian Software
  2. HTML
  3. CSS
  4. Node JS
  5. Python
  6. Federated Learning

We will be embedding both hardware and software where the display will be shown via software that we will be creating inside the Raspberry Pi System on the Raspbian OS.

We will be configuring voice speech with our Raspbian System and our system will support English Language Currently. However, we plan on introducing the Urdu Language as well.

All of the work/code will be written on the terminal of the Linux OS.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable will have wooden hardware encased mirror having an embedded Mirror into it with a Raspberry Pi attached behind it along with the touch screen. This project can be utilized for Cosmetic shops & Beauty Salons.
