Project Summary

The Holy Quran is the most sacred book for Muslims all over the world and many people learn it by heart. A person who learns the Holy Quran by heart is called Hafiz. During the period of learning the Hoy by heart, one can face many difficulties like Hafiz always needs someone who can listen to their recitation and point out the mistakes. But, sometimes no one is available for them to do this and there is a high probability that they won’t find out their mistakes. To assist a Hafiz in such cases, we need an application (The Holy Quran Listener) that can do the work as a listener and can tell if the reciter is wrong. This research work will be done using Machine Learning and any other required domain. It works in two steps. In step 1, the recited voice is converted to Arabic text word by word. In step 2, the generated text in step 1 is compared to the actual text of the Holy Quran. If the generated text is the same as that of the actual Quranic text, it is supposed that the reciter is reciting correctly. Otherwise, it is assumed that he/she has made a mistake and the Quranic Listener will notify the reciter. Our proposed Quranic Listener works in the same way as a human Quranic listener does in Taraweeh prayers. It will be used in Mosques and other religious institutes so that they can minimize their mistakes.

Project Objectives

The  objectives of the Holy Quran Listener are :

• To Keep a Hafiz on track so that he/she may not be detracked due to Mutshabihaat

• To Enable a Hafiz to know his/her mistakes while reciting the Holy Quran

• To assist a teacher (Qari) in Madrassas to listen to the recitations by their students (Haffaz Ikram)

Project Implementation Method

The proposed solution for this problem has the following steps:

• Get input from the user (Speech)

• Convert speech to text

• Compare text with the database

• If the text doesn’t match warn the user about the mistake by generating a beep and speak

Benefits of the Project

Some of the main advantages of The Holy Quran Listener are :

• Reciters will be able to correct themselves independently

• Teachers in Madrassas will be assisted as this system will listen to some of the reciters independently of the teacher

• This system will help Hafiz keep on track so that he/she may not be detracked due to Mutshabihaat

• Hafiz will be able to know his/her mistakes while reciting the Holy Quran

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable will be able to listen to the recitation of a Hafiz and will help reciter to keep on track. As this is a reasearch based system thus we will also publish a research paper in the end
