System on Chip with software plugin for IoT
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryPROJECT SUMMARY
Our project aims to add some selected group of peripherals and which are Timer UART GPIO SPI I2C and PWM and a Floating Point Unit into a RISC-V based core named SweRV EL-2. The resultant SoC(System On Chip) will be known as Rev-SoC. Our project adds further to the implementation o SDK(Software Development Kit) and a software Plugin through which we can easily program our processor to use it with IoT devices to implement almost any IoT application. We will emulate the whole design on the FPGA to check the output on any peripheral attached to the SoC. After the completion of verification and testing of RTL, We will perform all the necessary steps of Auto Place and Route (APR) , which is basically achieving the physical design of RTL that is written in any HDL( Verilog, SystemVerilog).
Project ObjectivesPROJECT GOALS
Our goal is to create a fully functional open source easy to use general purpose System on Chip with software plugin on top of high level SDK(Software Development Kit) for any IoT application It will be a clear example of an embedded system that may be utilised in a variety of fields including IoT, AI, educational, defense, economic, and industrial applications.
Project Implementation MethodPROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
Project will follow the following implementation method
- Implementation of peripherals.
- Testing of peripherals
- Implementation of interconnects
- Testing of interconnects
- Integration of peripheral devices and interconnects with core and testing.
- FPU(Floating Point Unit) implemnetation.
- Testing of FPU
- Integration OF FPU with core and its testing
- FPGA Emulation of Complete hardware
- UVM based Testing of hardware
- Software Development Kit and software Plugin to interact with IoT devices through peripherals.
BENEFITS OF PROJECT
- Open source System on Chip
- Easy to use as SDK (Software development kit) and software plugin is provided
- General purpose IoT enabled System on Chip
- First ever Pakistani Microprocessor based IoT platform
- No data leakage as design is open source
DETAILS OF FINAL DELIVERABLE
A complete FPGA based system which consists of a microprocessor with UART, SPI, TIMER, GPIO and I2C peripheral devices with two external memories. A software development kit which consists of all the drivers of the devices to program them easily additionally to provide it a graphical user interface and a single platform for easily programming this system to work with any IoT based application a VSCODE software plugin will also be provided.
