Supercapacitor-Lithium ion Hybrid Batteries based Drivetrain for Electric Vehicles
This project is to deal with design and development of a drivetrain system for Electric Vehicles (EVs). This drivetrain will be operated by Supercapacitor-Lithium ion hybrid batteries. Supercapacitor-Lithium ion hybrid battery technology is one of the latest technologies to be used in EVs. These batteries are combination of best of two technologies - i.e. supercapacitor for fast charging and lithium ion to hold charge as it has very low self-discharge. The result is a device with better energy density and higher durability (more charge-discharge cycles) than a Li-ion battery but cost lower than a supercapacitor storage system. The prime objective is to introduce sustainable & eco-friendly EVs which will give Pakistan an edge in this industry. We will be operating a 3KW BLDC motor with these batteries. Also, an emergency backup system will be added to recharge batteries in case of emergency (as charging infrastructure is not available in Pakistan as yet). For this purpose a range extender will be used to address the issue of range anxiety in EVs.
The main objective this project is to design and develop such type of economical and ecofriendly system which can give Pakistan a lead in EV and battery technology. Supercapacitor-Lithium ion Hybrid Batteries based Drivetrain will be applied on EVs to check their performance by comparing with technologies already in use in the feild of EVs.
We would start from designing and calculations for the battery rating than making the battery pack which consist of Super Capacitor Hybrid li-ion battery each cell of these battery provides 3.2V & 50Ah.The battery pack is of (20S & 2P) which will gives a total power of 6.4KWh which will drive the 3KW BLDC motor with the controller. The BMS will be installed with batteries in order to monitor passive or active cell balancing with Over charge ,Short Circuit protection & temperature.
Secondly we are introducing range extender.In which the gasoline engine is coupled with Dc motor (Dynamo) which will be operated when the battery percenatge is low (in between 15-10%) .This feature allow the user to recharge it batteries with gasoline fuel.
Laslty we are developing a charger which can charge the Super capacitor Hybrid Li-ion batteries on a constant current & constant voltage technique in order to charge these battery more efficiently and fastly in 5-6 hours.
The Benefits of this project is that we can achieve an eco-friendly enviornment by Implementing this Drivetrain system.Secondly as the life span of Supercapacitor Hybrid Lion-Ion batteries are 100K cycle therefore it is much better technology which help Electric Vehicles to power them.Moreover as the batteries can be operate in above 85 celsius so therefore it will surely give us an edge that these batteries can't get fier or brust easily due to enviornment effect.
laslty the benefits of this project is that it will give user more ease as this is a type of sustainable system which will be like plug & play rather than more complex type of system.Furthermore it will boost Pakistan automobile technology.
