Project Summary

In our project a non-invasive Brain-Computer Interface is used to classify the EEG correlates of chronic mental stress. The chronic mental stress level is measured by the Perceived Stress Scale 14 (PSS-14) that comprises of questionnaire inside an App. The questionnaire is based on some set of questions asked by user/student to which the user/student will have to answer. The questions will be relevant to Student Academic stress. As Study/Academic Stress is major issue that leads toward many social issues to our youth generation. The questionnaires for the study stress will figure out certain condition over which Study stress can exist. The social and personal conditions also effect the academic activities of student but in a long way no solution to fulfil their need, goes to stress condition in the end. This Stress is then transformed to its another stage from stress to depression and Anxiety. The Stress can affect different body functions especially it is divided into two main types.

  1. Acute Stress (Short term stress)
  2. Chronic Stress (Long term stress)

Acute stress is minor can be control by mean of life activities but the long-term chronic stress may affect the health very badly. The   PSS is designed for use by subjects with at least Semester program university students whereby the items in the questionnaire and app are easy to understand and the responses are simple. The features from the EEG correlates of mental stress are then extracted and subjects are categorized into the stress-free and stressed groups. The features are then classified and the performance of the proposed BCI is then evaluated. The storing and sharing data are done using the distributed blockchain ledger. The chain is protected using cryptography algorithms, and consequently, it cannot be manipulated or changed. In the blockchain, every data is digitally signed from participants to ensure its authenticity and security. The distributed ledger operates by consensus (smart contracts). Each block contains data and information. Following the storage, the data is then used in our App for recommendation on our subjects or patients that will then suggest certain activity to help them improve their Stress level according to entire class/type.

Project Objectives

The project is based on EEG device headset. An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a device that capture brain signal using electrodes attached to your scalp. The EEG signals are shown as a wavy line in output of its recording. In our project we are implementing Stress Detection using EEG. The objectives and goals of the projects are as follow:

  1. To assist the Academic stress of higher-class students/University students.
  2. To give proper recommendation system to the users who have high stress value by giving them medication plan, diet plan, Exercise plan and observation plan by the specified psychiatrist and phycologist.
  3. The Stress detection is classified as in different class relevant to the stress factors e.g. Emotional Factors, behavioral factor Examination factors and social factors.
  4. The main objective of the project is to maintain the questionnaire that may match the value of brain signal to give appropriate model to differentiate between stressed and stress-free groups.
  5. The data is kept in new block. Once the block is filled with data it is chained onto the previous block with unique key, Different types of information can be stored on a blockchain.

Project Implementation Method

We will Implementation the project in two phases

1) The dataset with EEG signals using Headset

2) Creating a flutter App to display the data 

The dataset will be created by the help of questionnaire approved from physiatrist. The questionnaire will be asked from the test users wearing the headset which will show their brain activity created from EEG signals. The signals will be map with the answers from the users. Later on, when the user will be using our app the app will display the questionnaire in app which the app user will attempt helping him/her classify their stress.

Benefits of the Project

The project will mainly benefit students but in future can be used to help anyone have stress. As stress can cause potential damage to health and student studies. It can sometime even result in suicidal tendencies in students. The app will try to find out stress in the starting stages of student helping him/her recover faster and get better grades.  

We aim to maximize student output by help them overcome their stress life resulting from any type of issues.  

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We will be delivering an AI model that can predict stress from human brain using EEG signals which can find out hidden stress which people may out be able to express.

We will also be delivering a full fledge flutter app with a backend admin panel for each uploading of data. 

The App will also have some part of Blockchain which will help protect user personal data such as medical records.
