Stair Climbing Robot
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryWith advancements in technology and continuous efforts to improve living standards, multiple fields have been revolutionized radically. Robotics is a field that has been considered a modernized concept of making life easy, simple, and swift. Robots are designed as per task specificity and performance specificity. The article is focused to design a robot that could be able to climb multiple stairs ranging from one to many stairs. The control algorithm is utilized for the ability of the robot to climb the stairs and pass on irregular pathways or steep or unstable paths. The ability of the robot to cover unusual paths make them a potential market entrant in the fields of surveillance and service robotics. The variety of applications sensors that could be updated and upgraded is used in the functioning of robots. Moreover, the robot will be helping with thermal vision, chemical sensing, security applications, and rescue operations without the battery changing for two hours.
Project ObjectivesThe main objective of making this robot is to add the ability of stair climbing so that the barrier of stairs could be removed. To create such a robot that does not gets stopped by the stairs. The theme of the project is a robot that would be able to go anywhere in a building and also move upstairs and downstairs if required.
Project Implementation MethodFor the implementation of the task of stair climbing, we have designed a 6-legged robot that adapts according to the size and shape of the stairs. An Arduino is used as a controller which would act as the brain of the robot. A wifi module will be used for communication between the robot and the controller. A dc battery would be used to provide the required power to the motors.
Benefits of the ProjectThere is a variety of different types of surveillance robots in the market but all of them have their own pros and cons. Most of them have a limitation in the range of their vision and for that reason, we have to use multiple cameras to cover an area also they are fixed at a place and they cannot be used to get a video of any other area house or the building. This robot is the only robot that can cover all the buildings and can even move floors up and down to get the footage.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final deliverable of the project is the 6-legged robot that climbs up the stairs of a maximum length of 7 to 8 inches. Its mechanical structure has the load torque to carry the weight to climb the stairs.
