Spy Camera based RC Plane
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryTalking about the rescue purpose applications, we have seen that big choppers and helicopters are used controlled by the person manually. Machines have always a probability that it can fail to operate anytime and due to this reason, the person controlling them inside always have a danger risk alert for his life. Now when we come across Pakistan then there are some areas where these big choppers or helicopters could not enter and due to this reason also sometimes rescue procedure fails and people had to go with manual procedures of finding or rescuing lost ones, but the thing is that human procedures are always less trustable and not successful all time. So, we have aimed to design a prototype called as Spy camera-based RC Plane which can be used in place of these big machinery. This prototype uses a live streaming procedure to view the area condition with the use of camera. This live streaming is being observed through the Laptop or PC on which the pilot is controlling. This prototype is controlled by the pilot through a remote-controlled setup outside and thus it decreases the chances of human life risk because if any fault occurs then this prototype will not make that much destruction as happens with the bigger machineries. We have aimed to make this prototype an autonomous prototype, when we have gained much manual control. This Spy camera-based RC plane is aimed to be helpful in big forest areas, snowy hills and mountains.
Project ObjectivesWe have aimed to design an autonomous prototype called as Spy camera-based RC Plane. The objectives for the project have been mentioned below:
- To design a prototype with low weight and good stability control
- To make the flying of prototype as efficient as possible
- To install a camera that fulfill the purpose of rescue by streaming lively and sending data to the laptop or PC to fulfill the purpose of rescue.
Our project is based on aerodynamics. We head towards build the structure of the RC plane that can sustain weight of devices and also air pressure during flying. Afterwards we install flight controllers and work on flight mechanism of RC plane. When installation is completed then we test our prototype with three test which are named as follows: Manual test (To check whether it works correctly during manual control through remote), then we do Stabilized flight test (To check whether the flight of RC plane is stabilized or not) then we move towards Autonomous flight test (In this test we assign the destination through waypoints to reach). When all the tests are successful then we move towards our final step of installation of camera and interfacing it to get live stream data on laptop or PC.
A flowchart is shown in fig 1

Designing of small prototypes is a point of benefit where it can save space and also requires small circuit design that can fit in. Our prototype design is also small compact and requires less space. When we talk about such flying RC planes prototypes then not only it can be used in rescue applications but it can be used in mapping and surveys, to provide medical aids and services. We have mainly focused our application as search and rescue applications (SAR Applications).
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final product is the RC plane which is controlled by remote setup by the pilot from outside. The RC plane uses a software such as Mission Planner to make the pilot to get know in what direction the plane is flying through the use of aerodynamics and devices. It includes a spy camera that can capture live stream scenario of the area it is flying in and this data is being observed through the laptop or mobile device in order to know the situation for search and rescue applications.
