Spike Based Aerodynamic Shape Optimization using CFD FLUENT
Our project draws upon optimal design of aerospike models to be used exclusively on hypersonic vehicles to counteract high drag and heat levels. It focuses on the use of aerospikes on various nose configurations of hypersonic vehicles utilizing CFD and machine learning modules to attain optimal design models
We aim to:
1.Reduce aerodynamic drag generated
2.Reduce aerodynamic heat generated
3.Maintain stability of the aerospike model
Computation fluid dynamics is utilized with the help of ICEM and Fluent in Ansys to analyze flow field features around various aerodisk-spike-vehicle forebody geometries. The geometric parameters of various models, namely the inputs, and their corresponding heating, drag and stability parameters, the outputs, are tabulated for mach numbers ranging from 4-7 and incidence angles from 0-6 degrees and the acquired dataset is divided into training, validation and testing datasets and put through algorithms of Machine Learning.
As the world progresses in space travel, use of aerospike plays a pivotal role in the aerodynamics of Hypersonic Vehicles. Doing this work will place us ahead in the field of space travel where we will pe able to compete with other countries.
Black Box generated at end will provide us with geometric parameters for an optimal desired values of drag, heating and mach number.
