Project Title

Solar Powered Smart Gardens

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

Project summary is as follows:

Maintaining the garden in itself is a very tedious and time-consuming task, on top of it watering of plants with minimal wastage has become the need of the hour to sustain energy consumption and save water. In order to experience a greater sense of aesthetics and a breath of fresh air without necessarily being a propagator, there is a need for garden digitization. Numerous devices and networks could possibly make the hobby of gardening sustainable. Smart gardening is the best possible solution to it.

Smart Garden is a plant environmental monitoring system. It monitors the soil moisture, air temperature, and air humidity of your plant(s) and automatically waters the plant based on the data received by sensors. Other than that functionalities like Artificial Sunlight and Camera to keep view on plants can also be added.

We have performed following tasks for the given project:

  1. Designing of solar system for the smart garden.
  2. Designing of solar charge controller for the smart gardens.
  3. Operating the lights automatically where required and turn on the lights at evening.
  4. Designing of person counter at the main entrance of the garden.
  5. Designing of smart watering system for the plants with amazing features.
  6. Maintaining the security system of the garden.
Project Objectives

Project objectives are given as under:

  1. To develop and innovate the current smart garden available on the market today.
  2. To optimize water usage during gardening.
  3. Use renewable energy source i-e. Photovoltaic (PV) to harvest daylight energy and store it for use at night.
  4. Control light intensity for additional energy saving and supporting both safety and decorative light schemes
  5. Incorporate safety, energy savings, and water consumption control in a single system in a user-friendly, low-cost, product.
  6.  Improve garden watering and lighting efficiency with a single system for residential application.
  7. To remotely maintain the garden.
  8. To develop a system that sends and receives data for better functionality to help user in taking care of the garden.
Project Implementation Method

Project is implemented by the following ways:

  1. Block Diagram
  2. Flow chart
  3. Circuit Design of different parts of project.
  4. Merge the circuit as a whole.
  5. Circuit simulations and analysis.
  6. Coding of required components.
  7. Hardware purchasing
  8. Assembling, testing and analysis.
Benefits of the Project

Benefits of the project are listed as under;

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Technical Details are as follows:

In the “Solar Powered Smart Gardens” , we have designed a solar system for the gardens, firstly. In this step first we have designed a solar charge controller. After that, using solar plate and charge controller along with battery, we have provided power to the garden. We have used a PIC controller for the smart controlling of lights and optimize usage of water for the plants by using soil moisture sensor , LDR and rain sensor. We have also added a scheduling water feature in our system by coding the requirement in a PIC microcontroller. By using PIR sensor at the front gate of the garden, we have counted people present in a garden. By using smoke detector, we have enhanced the security and protection of the plants in case of fire hazards.
