Project Summary

This project presents an algorithm to present solar based electrical energy and convert them into batteries using maximum power point tracking (MPPT).This MPPT is very efficient to get maximum power from PV panel. So the previous solar based electric bike charging station based on only solar energy i.e get energy from solar and then directly charge The bikes but improved electric bike charging station based on two function i.e get energy from sun and directly charge the bike.The second way is hybrid i.e when there is no solar energy then get energy from wapda supply and convert it into electric bike. Methodology of the project is to get solar energy from the sun and this energy pass through MPPT converter and then store it into dry batteries and directly charge the bikes.As there is no solar energy at night so by taking energy from wapda supply and using bridge rectifier circuit to make it DC and then convert it into battery. So this energy then use for electric bikes.

Project Objectives

As we know cost of petroleum increasing day by day and fossil fuel are decreasing day by day. To get rid  of all there aspects we should use solar energy for our daily life use like we use petroleum for motorbikes and motor cars. So the question is that how we use solar energy for our vehicles. For this purpose we make electric bikes and the charging station. Our main focus on solar based electric bike and charging station. As we know that in Pakistan mostly people are middle class and everyone cannot use the cars so majority of the people use bikes for their daily use. As these bikes based on petrol and cost of petrol is increasing day by day approximately 113rs/litre. To get rid of petrol we introduce electric bikes so by using electric bikes we cannot import electric bikes from other countries and revenue can be generated by own country.

Project Implementation Method

The modeling of electric bike solar station is based on PV panel which get energy from the sun and this energy is then converted into a module which is MPPT and DC to DC converter both are controlled by a pic controller and this convert this energy into batteries, the battery is 48 volts ,20 ampere hours rating. The batteries inside the electric bike consist of four batteries  and each battery is of 12 volts and these are connected in series draw a current of 20 ampere.

One pic controller is used in MPPT charge controller which maximizes the current that is going towards  battery and to charge battery quickly.

second controller is used to switch between wapda and solar voltages. When solar voltages are less then 56V then it will shift controll to wapda voltages.
