ELECTRIC VEHICLE is a combination of a conventional internal combustion engine and an electric propulsion system. It implies that HEV can be driven on I.C. engine as well as on electric power. HEV produces less emissions compared to a similar-sized gasoline car as the gasoline engine of the HEV can be geared to run at maximum efficiency. The significance of electric power train is that it runs with lesser power loss, hence improving the overall fuel economy. Encouraging hybridization of vehicles can reduce of CO2 emission and thus the fuel costs. At present, hybrid electric vehicles are widely available in commercial vehicles, military vehicles and passenger cars. But country like Pakistan is facing the problem of load shedding. And the problem is charging of electric Vehicles in developing countries. But if we shift these electric vehicles completely on renewable energy resources like solar and wind this problem can be overcome. Solar energy and wind energy are free energy resources and these resources are easily available. And we can easily charge electric vehicles by installing wind turnines/Wind generator and solar panel on vehicles during manufacturing.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to design a Solar/Wind charged Hybrid electric Vehicle to charged electric vehicles for saving electricity from conventional resources and to make vehicle environment friendly. This vehicle reduces fossil fuel consumption and used wind and solar energy sources for battery bank charging.As we know that solar and wind is renewable form of energy. And these resources are easily available.The amount of energy carried by solar radiation is normally expressed in terms of the solar constant that measures the quantity of solar energy passing through one square meter of space perpendicular to the direction of travel of the radiation at the average distance of Earth from the sun. Wind energy is a renewable energy resource which makes use of wind velocity. The wind velocity is dependent on the climate and geographical location. The fossil fuel are rapidly decreasing, due to which alternate sources of energy should be used for transportation.

The implementation process of project consist of four steps:

Benefits of the Project

 One of the biggest advantage of hybrid car over gasoline powered car is that it runs cleaner and has better gas mileage which makes it  environmental friendly. A hybrid vehicle runs on twin powered engine (gasoline engine and electric motor) that cuts fuel consumption and conserves energy. Hybrid cars are supported by many credits and incentives that help to make them affordable. Lower annual tax bills and exemption from congestion charges comes in the form of less amount of money spent on the fuel. A Hybrid car is much cleaner and requires less fuel to run which means less emissions and less dependence on fossil fuels. This in turn also helps to reduce the price of gasoline in domestic market.

And another advantage of this vehicle is taht we can charge it direcltly from renewable energy resources and we can save electricity. As we will charge our vehicles from solar and wind so we can save electricity from conventional energy resources. 

With continuous increase in price of gasoline, more and more people are turning towards hybrid cars. The result is that these hybrid vehicles have started commanding higher than average resale values.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

This prototype can be used to charge electric vehicles by solar panels and wind turbines installed on vehicles itself. The charging kit can be installed on any vehicle which is then modified to hybrid vehicle. The sketch of vehicles and turbine is shown in figure below.

The above diagram shows simple model which shows the turbine model and induction generators, the generator is connected to the charge controller/stabilizers chamber which regulates the electrical characteristics i.e Voltage, current, power. Then through cables power is delivered to battery sections, which consist of battery banks. The power generated will be stored in batteries & utilized when needed.
