Smart Water Tracking and Distribution System
Our smart water tracking and distribution system is specifically designed keeping in view the dynamics and problems faced by the majority of the Pakistan's population living thier life in shared rental houses or flats. When two families are living in rental house in two different floors, a problem arises which is sharing of water.
As water is scarcely available and in differnet cities of Pakistan and is usually available one time a day so both families have to utilize water from one tank, The one who uses the most gets the most.
Due to this, many disputes occurs between the parties. So basically we are designing a system using solnoid valve, flow rate sensors and microcontrollers that will be installed in the each users main pipe. Depending upon the level of water available in the tank, microcontroller will allot percentages for each user. Flow rate sensor will calculate the amount of water used by that particular floor. Once that amount of alloted water is consumed, microcontroller will closed the valve and water supply to that floor will be stopped. It will ensure equal distribution of water among the parties. So overuse/unfair use of water will be stopped which will decrease the number of disputes over water.
We will also develope an water development app which will help the user to monitor the amount of water used and remaining amount. Along with that, we also developing an algorithm in which a user can request for more water through app and if the water is available, more water will be alotted and bill for extra use will be added into their monthly bill.
Currently, there is no such similar system as a whole present in the market for domestic use which resolves the specific problems we are targeting.
Our team is looking to solve a problem which is very common in the areas where water is available only once a day or once a week. In Pakistan, water is one of the most under tracked resourse on the consumer side. Unequal distribution between the parties give arise to disputes and many other issues. So our system will be able to solve these problem on consumer side.
• Unequal distribution of water
• Proper tracking of water.( water used/ remaining)
We will develop a demo model of three user, one top tank and one underground tank. The product will include 1 master/main controller that will be installed along with water level sensors on the top tank and 3 slave controllers, those will be installed in the main pipe of each users along with one solenoid valve and a flow rate sensor each. which can be further extended as needed. One controller, water level sensor and a motor will be installed in the lower(underground tank) which will be able to draw water from lower tank to the top(main) tank.
Later in the phase, we will develop an app that will be used to monitor the remaining and used water. It will help the user to monitor the use of water that will ultimately lead to efficient use of wate.
1. Node MCU ESP8266: It will be used as our microcontroller. It has inbuilt Wi-Fi module that will be used form transfering the data on the app. It uses P2P Wi-Fi communication. It contains 1 analog pin and 11 digital I/O pins.
2. Water flow rate sensor (YF-S201):Water flow sensor consists of a plastic valve body, a small turbine, and a hall-effect sensor. It measures the water flow rate through the small turbine. When the water flows through the sensor, the turbine spins and it generated a frequency of pulses. Depending upon the frequency, we will calculate the water flow rate.
Sensors Specification and Features:
3. Solenoid Valve: The valve is operated with 12v. It has 2 states ON and OFF. The 12V solenoid valve will control the flow of water through the user’s main pipe. The valve is normally open and allows the flow of water. In order to function normally, a minimum fluid pressure of 0.02Mpa (3 PSI) is required. The valve is directionally sensitive, which means that liquid can only flow from the input to the output, not the opposite.
Sensors Specification and Features:
4. Water Pump: Water pump is used to pump water from underground tank to the top main tank. For demonstration purpose, we are using a small water pump rather than a big motor.
