The recently developed technologies leads to comfort, convenience and efficiency in regular day to day existence. In addition to buying and ordering groceries and many products many people still prefer to go to the market themselves and do shopping. While going to the supermarkets or mega stores the costumers consume a great time selecting the right product to buy. But still they are most of the time unaware of the quality and quantity. In addition to that after done with the product selection when it comes to do payment It sometimes takes a lot of time to get over the line. To counter these problems, we have proposed a new system called as Smart Trolley with Product Recommendation. In project we are developing a smart trolley using IOT and Recommender system. In this proposed system the costumer has to make a list of product they are going to buy from the shopping mall using the android application installed in their mobiles. When the costumer enters into the store there will be trolley with a barcode reader and a tablet. The costumer has to scan the QR code on the tablet using his/her mobile app so the list will be transferred and will be shown on the tablet screen. The proposed system will analyze the products and using the recommender system it will recommend the related product based on the reviews from the past. Whenever the costumer puts a product into a trolley the barcode reader will read the product and add it to the cart runtime which will be shown on the tablet screen. The billing process is quite tiresome and highly time consuming that’s why the proposed system has an option of checkout using different payment gateways in order to skip the long queue at the billing counter. After 7 days from the day of shopping the costumer can submit the reviews on their product that they have used using their mobile application.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to make a smart shopping trolley with the ability to recommend the best products to the shopper. It will have a barcode scanner and a tablet with integrated mobile application. A costumer will make a list of the items to buy using their mobile application. After going to the shopping mall the customer will login to the system using the tablet installed on the trolley. The tablet will show the customer their shopping list, shopping cart with net bill and the recommended products to buy. It will have the option to pay on the spot using different gateways like credit card, Easypaisa in order to skip the billing counter. Using the mobile application the user can create shopping lists. They can give a feedback on every product they buy using the system.

Project Implementation Method

The implementation method for this project is to follow agile project development in which we constantly discover requirements and for those requirements we develop the system in a way that fullfil those requirements. In order to turn this tought into a complete running system we would be doing step by step activities in best practices to a successful project completion. Our team is a combination of development and managorial expertise which will greatly improve the project implementation.

Benefits of the Project

The main goal of this system is to automate the conventional method of shopping in the mega stores or shopping malls in which the costumer goes to the mall pick the trolley and go in search of a product from one rack to another. After finding the product then comes the hardest part in which one have to choose the best among all the available same product of different brands which makes a lot of confusion for the people because most often the costumer does not know which to buy. This system will make it very easy to choose the best among all because of the recommendation system it provides you with product recommendation using past data and user behavior which will help people to pick the best one. This system will have the option to give a feedback on the products you buy. Which will give the costumer an option to criticize bad quality products. The most useful part of the proposed system is it has the ability of runtime cart calculation. In which whenever the customer picks an item and places it in a trolley there will be barcode scanner installed on a trolley the costumer will have to scan the product and place it into the trolley. The system will add the product into the cart and show that cart on the tablet screen installed on the trolley to the user with the total amount. After done with shopping the system will give the user different options to pay for the products which will save the user a lot of time.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final system would be a software and a hardware based complete smart shopping trolley system with product recommendation. There would be three software interfaces which includes admin, trolley tablet and a mobile application.

Admin and trolley tablet interface will be built using web technologies like HTML, CSS, Javascript and JQuery for the front end and PHP and MySql for the backend of the system while the mobile application would be built using andriod studio with a core language Java and MySql for backend. In hardware there would be an omnidirectional barcode scanner installed on specially designed trolley. The trolley will have a tablet installed on it. Any tablet with a memory of greater than 3 gigabytes with a hard disk greater than 32 gigabyte consisting an 8 to 10 inch display screen.
