Population growth causes an increase in the number of vehicles, and a lack of effective traffic management would lead to huge economic lost such as energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and time lost. For example, the United States lost 5.5 billion hours of time due to traffic congestion from 2000 to 2010. With the continuous population growth, traffic congestion has become one of the biggest obstacles restricting the city economic development; it results in high consumptions of fuel, increases the cost of commutes, and also pollutes the environment. In order to reduce the traffic congestion and improve the public transport efficiency, infrastructures which enable smart transport services would be the key factor for the success of intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
A traffic signal controller, as the most important part of infrastructure in smart city transportation, is the main coordinator for the urban traffic flows. Traditionally, three types of traffic control strategies are adopted including pre-time (predefined signal plan), actuated (triggered signal control), or ATSC (adaptive traffic signal control) depending on the traffic assignment strategy decided by traffic management authority. However, these approaches do not fulfill the intelligent transportation systems requirements in the smart city.
Project ObjectivesTo fulfill the requirement for achieving the Bachelor’s degree of software engineering. To know the fundamentals of the IOT Technology and IOT with Adriano Framework. To develop a system that delivers or value the precious time of public. To handle the sensors details like Soil Moisture, Humidity and temperature details. To provide advantages to the peoples by lessening the time of the waste on traffic signals. To provide awareness about someone’s life. It could be way better and life saving for someone because/due to huge traffic rush sometimes ambulances or patient stuck in the rush of traffic and lose their lives.
Project Implementation MethodThe Smart Traffic Solution System composes of four sensors which can monitor the traffic flow on each side of the road. The sensors used in this project are Infrared sensors. Next, the Adriano is used to connect all the sensors together and act as the main controller. The Smart traffic solution system is used as to control the flow of traffic. The FAVORIOT platform is used to receive the data send from the Espresso Lite V2.0. Based, this paper used an Adriano IDE as the micro controller. The Adriano IDE will be connected to the UC00A BATTERY that will supply a 3.0V to power up the board. As the Adriano IDE is operated, it will automatically connect to the internet via build in Wi-Fi board. This micro-controller used NodeMCU ESP8266 as the Wi-Fi board and send data to the FAVORIOT platform. The inputs for this project are the data from the present condition of the traffic. Sensors which will monitor the soil surrounding and send the data to the Espresso Lite V2.A ‘Blank’ application. The LED display will show the output for each conditions and the data is send to the web server which is FAVORIOT. The web server will automatically send an alert to the user via smartphone. Various hardware materials are required to have a Smart traffic solution system. Some of the essential components are listed below to have an idea about the proposed system.

Data from these sensors is then sent to the Adriano, which has an inbuilt signal converter. Adriano then sends data over to the Wi-Fi module – ESP8266. ESP8266 is a chip used for connecting micro-controllers to the Wi-Fi network and make TCP/IP connections and send data. Data, which is sensed by these sensors, is then sent to the IOT.
Benefits of the ProjectTime being the main intent of the project, the most important application of this system is traffic security. By using this project, a person will be intimidated about the value of his time. This project can be used at every city of Pakistan and at every signal. The main advantage of this system is that it is fully automated. Once installed, it does not require any kind of human interaction. Also, it is very cost-effective. IOT and Adriano based Smart traffic solution System can be enhanced to identify face reorganization as opposed to prevent accidents and other traffic violations. We believe that comfort and time safety are the best reasons to choose IOT devices. If your device is constantly aware of the situation, status alerts such as traffic rush, accidents then it will save a lot of time and human effort. The devices can interact with each other and follow the instructions. When the moisture sensor detects the moisture conditions it will sent all the instructions to Main controller and the controller automatically detects the issues in sensors and generate a message to it section to prevent bugs. With a stable internet connection and power supply, all this is a great feature. Although smart traffic solutions are among the few who have adopted the concept of automatic living and save their time and effort but in the coming few decades Smart Traffic Solution System will become the essential part of their life.
