Smart Shoes for Blinds
Eyes play important role in our day to day lives and are perhaps the most valuable gift we have. This world is visible to us because we are blessed with eyesight. But there are some people who lag this ability of visualizing these things. Due to this, they will undergo a lot of troubles o move comfortably in public places. Hence, wearable device should design for such visual impaired people. A smart shoe is wearable system design to provide directional information to visually impaired people. To provide smart and sensible navigation guidance to visually impaired people, the system has great potential especially when integrated with visual processing units. During the operation, the user is supposed to wear the shoes. When sensors will detect any obstacle, user will be informed through Android system being used by the user. The Smart Shoes along with the application on the Android system shall help the user in moving around independently.
Our objective is to create a portable app that uses navigational data from Google’s mapping database and sends this data through Bluetooth to a micro-controller. Our project would include programming a microcontroller to associate with a Bluetooth Chip through the serial cable to get messages and control the vibration appropriately. The microcontroller would make distinctive vibration patterns to direct the user to his/her destination. A critical portion of this project would moreover be focused on creating the circuitry required to supply diverse components with the proper voltage, control for the desired sum of time.
System consists of an Arduino board with a ultrasonic sensor that will detect the obstacle and will send the signal to the Arduino board that will calculate the distance and will send signal to the buzzer and vibrator motor if the object is too close. The ultrasonic sensor is mounted on top of the shoe while the entire circuit is placed inside the shoe.
Hardware used in the system is
SOFTWARE IMPLEMENTATION
Software utilized in the system is
Arduino IDE: Used to program the microcontroller Arduino so that it can do all the function that are required to be performed by the system.
It has been observed that developed support system- is accurate in detecting the obstacle and alerting the visually impaired person find their way bypassing every obstacle that comes on their way to the destination. The ultrasonic sensor has been fully utilized in order to advance the mobility of the blind and visual impaired people in safe and independent way. This system does not require a huge device to be hold for a long distance, and it also does not require any special training. This system also resolves limitations that are related to the most of the movement problems that may influence the blind people in their environment.
