Patient health monitoring and management system is used to measure vital health parameters of patient and manage the data measured using IOT system. Use of this device is becoming very important in hospitals/clinics because one don’t need to wait for the doctor to check basic health parameters of the body. It increases ease for the doctor as doctor will already receive the basic health data about patient and take necessary steps to save patient life if found critical. This device can also be used in various versions like it can be used as a reception device for managing (storing and transferring data) data of patients; it can be used in ICU’s where it will record the health parameters of patient after fixed interval of time continuously. So, in case of unavailability of hospital staff, patients are monitored continuously; it can also be installed in homes or rural areas so one doesn’t need to go to hospital for normal routine checkups every time saving the cost from every hospital visit.
The objectives of the project are as follow:
For this health monitoring device, different sensors will be used. These sensors will measure different parameters of patient like temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse rate and oxygen level. Sensors will be interfaced in single device to directly measure the health parameters. Medical condition of the patient sensed by the sensors is displayed on the LCD screen where one can guess about the level of emergency to immediately inform the doctor. For management system, an IoT system will be used that is able to store and upload results to local server that will be accessible using app. In this regard, first of all user/patient ID is made that will store patient’s name and specific password and contact details about the patient and any family member. Then the information sensed by the sensors will be saved online or through SD card and sent to the doctor as well as to the patient using IoT. The doctor will act accordingly as he will now have the basic information about patient’s health utilizing very little time. The information about specific patient is saved and can be accessed later using the online server if doctor wants to regularly monitor the patient’s recovery condition. To access the data again, the same name or ID of the patient is used. This is done to make the recovery guess about patient condition. Figure given below shows the basic health monitoring and management system in which person heart rate and respiratory rate are measured and are sent to the hospital and family in case of any emergency.

This project has wide range of applications in medical field. Many developing countries have clinics that lack such type of equipment to quickly monitor the patients and give them immediate treatment. These kind of Patient health monitoring and management devices can be used to save one’s life if they are diagnosed properly and sending the data to the doctor even if the doctor is not available for some reasons. Moreover, promoting such kind of devices increase awareness among the population living in rural or remote areas where there is the major issue of death because of absence of doctor or non-availability of medical equipment. During Covid pandemic, life of doctor was considered more important than any other thing. For that purpose, to reduce the physical interaction between doctor and patient, this type of device can be very effective.
Patient Health Monitoring and Management Device will be working as following module,
Block diagram for the system shows the controller with data processing and its inputs and outputs. Inputs are the sensors (temperature sensor, weight sensor, pulse oximeter and blood pressure measurement sensor). This input will be processed by the controller and data will be saved. Outputs are the LCD display, GSM module and Wi-Fi module. LCD will display the health essentials of the patients. GSM module will be used to send text alert to concerned person. Wi-Fi module will connect this device to local server so data can be accessed thorugh mobile app.

The control unit and power circuit of device will be in some casing/body. The body will be 3D printed for ease in manufacturing at project level.

The basic idea is to design a portable Patient health monitoring and management device that measures the health essentials of body using various sensors as well as manages the recorded data. We want to make a device that can include the most important health parameters with more efficient calculation where there is no room of error. This is a Bio-medical device where the system is performing all its operation automatically and after taking all readings from sensors it is finally sending these readings from sensors to the screen, saving in SD card and sending SMS to the doctor. It is totally an IOT (Internet of Things) project. The objective is to make an electronic device which should be versatile and innovative. This device will be based on modern perspective of engineering controlled by automated systems
