Project Objectives- Create a hardware device which can be used to collect data on how ripe the fruits are.
- Use the datagathered from the hardware to find the correlation between it and the ripeness of the fruit .
- Create a smartphone application which can display/save the data.
We have found out that there is a strong correlation between the starch content of fruits and their ripeness/quality .We plan to measure the starch content using NIR ( near-infrared ) spectroscopy ,then find test the effectiveness of our device with existing methods and track the starch content of fruits from start to end .We will use this data to predict the ripeness of fruits.
Benefits of the ProjectEU has been imposing fruit export restrictions on Pakistan because of low quality fruit which we export .If we can predict the best date to harvest the fruit then it will be in peak quality when it reaches the markets ( internal or abroad ).Thus this will help allow Pakistan to increase its export quantities .
Technical Details of Final Deliverable-
NIR sensor which can detect the amount of different wavelengths which get reflected from the fruits.

Battery powered arduino which can transmit the data from the sensor to the smartphone application .

The application which can find the starch content from the sensor data and use it to predict the ripeness of the fruit or when it will be the best date/time to harvest the fruit.

The application must also be able to store/display/share the results.
