The purpose of making the smart helmet is to increase interest of wearing helmet and also make local people aware of the technology. The use of helmet is made mandatory by Sindh government that’s why we have decided to make a smart helmet that not only protects people from accidents but also guides bikers while traveling. By using smart helmet we intend to increase the ratio of people wearing helmets and reduce the chances of injuries and death. Our helmet provides rear camera view while riding . In case of accident or emergency , SMS will be sent to the selected emergency number. And if the helmet is stolen or misplaced , you can find your helmet through an android app.
To ensure that the rider is not drunk breath alcohol sensor is installed in helmet. Range of alcohol consumption will defined. If the alcohol consumption gets increased from the defined range MQ3 sensor will send the alerting message to pi after which engine will be locked and bike won’t be able to start.
The goal of the Smart Helmet project is to significantly increase safety and awareness for motorcycle drivers. With an accessible and convenient way for drivers to stay aware of their blind spots, the Smart Helmet will be a vital asset for any motorcyclist interested in adding a blanket of safety while on the road. While not intended to be a replacement for any existing road safety practices, the Smart Helmet gives drivers an added assurance of safety.

Our first task is engine lock incase of Alcohol Detection and the development of This circuit comprises of sensor and relay which are going to be used to give a warning message if driver is found to have a higher concentration of alcohol in his breath and to lock the engine.
Next task that we will be working on is the back view camera and its output on the LCD screen for rear view. Through the coding we are going to program the camera it will give the rear end view of the vehicle. We also plan to use a suitable algorithm for object detection.
Our third step is to develop Accidents Detection and Emergency program . For this particular task we will be collecting data from different vibration sensors which are going to be attached to the helmet. we will use the information given by sensor and extract the location from GPS module and send the message to emergency contact that has been set by user.
Lastly we are going to devote our time on a Mobile App for the entry of users emergency contact and for tracking purpose of the helmet incase incase it gets misplaced.or stolen.
Benefits of the ProjectThis helmet is fundamentally designed to help prevent road accidents and provide a safer experience for the user. Pakistan is ranked first in Asia and 48th in the world for most deaths caused by traffic accidents. The helmet has four basic features the first is that upon starting the motorcycle a sensor acts as a breathalyzer determines if the rider is intoxicated or not in case of a positive result the engine does not start the second feature is a camera placed at the back of the helmet using computer vision the camera will detect if a vehicle get closer than a specified distance and sound an alarm to alert the rider finally in case of an accident the helmet is equipped with piezoelectric sensors to detect the impact and sends a message to a pre determined number.
In addition to these feature we plan to design an app which will have two features the first feature is find my helmet which keeps track of the helmet using GPS the other feature will be used to pre program numbers for each individual.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableCAMERA FOR BACK VIEW:
It consists of a Raspberry Pi Camera stream on a Display. Basically, we want a unit that acts as a full-time stream of the camera and displayed the feed on a screen, so that we can have a camera unit that we can simply turn on and use. We will also use an algorithm for object detection.
GPS TRACKING ON MOBILE PHONE:
GPS tracking is the main feature of our system user can track all the real time location of helmet on their android application in case of stolen or misplace user can track their helmet easily. We are going to implement GPS module NEO 6M in helmet board for the communication with satellite and provide the current latitude and longitude of the real time location on the board. This helmet overcomes these drawbacks by sending visual images of the location where the person met with the accident with the exact location of latitude and longitude and this will be received by his/her contacts.
ACCIDENT DETECTION IN EMERGENCY:
The mechanism of this smart helmet is very simple, piezoelectric sensors are placed in different sections of helmet where the chances of hitting is more which are connected to Raspberry pi. So when the rider crashes and the helmet hits the ground, these sensors sense and provide the data to the Pi which extracts GPS data using the GPS module that is integrated with it. When the data goes below the minimum stress limit then GSM module automatically sends alerting message to ambulance or family members.

GPS BASED LOCATION DISPLAY USING LCD SCREEN:
The goal is to build a GPS device that will display its location on a moving map. The device works by using swaths of Google map screen shots stored on the SD card, along with an XML file that describes the map's boundary coordinates. GPS readouts are used to pick the proper map swath, and center a portion of the map to be displayed on the LCD. The map is also rotated to match the GPS heading readout.
