Smart Glove for Blind Peoples

Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject Summary

In this report, Arduino based Hardware project “Smart Glove for Blinds” has been presented. It was an exciting and challenging project so far for me but I felt immense pleasure doing this project.

Smart glove for the blind project is to help blind people walk and estimate the distance from obstacles. Main component for this project are Arduino UNO, Vibrator motor and ultrasonic sensor. Based on the experiment that has been conducted, there are a few advantages and limitations of this project. One of the advantages of this project was the use of the ultrasonic sensor. This sensor was susceptible and will trigger faster when it detects obstacles. Besides that, the cost to develop this project was low and can be afforded by blind people. The limitation of this project was the ultrasonic sensor used could only detect the obstacles but cannot illustrate the shape of the obstacles. Furthermore, this assistive glove can be used by blind people as well as blind and deaf peoples.

Project Objectives

Smart glove for the blind project is to help blind people walk and estimate the distance from obstacles. The main component for this project is Arduino UNO, a Vibrator motor, and an ultrasonic sensor. Based on the experiment that has been conducted. This sensor is susceptible and will trigger faster when it detects obstacles. Besides that, the cost to develop this project was low and can be afforded by blind people. The limitation of this project was the ultrasonic sensor used could only detect the obstacles but cannot illustrate the shape of the obstacles. Furthermore, this assistive glove can be used by blind people as well as blind and deaf people. Future improvements can be made to increase the performance of this project.

Project Implementation Method

A blind person starts the system

Microcontroller gives the command to ultrasonic sensor detects the object

The ultrasonic sensor gives the data to the microcontroller Microcontroller show output to the user

Output must be according to given commands Output will show in two forms

Buzzer and vibration inform the user

If the object not detected ultrasonic sensor starts the process again and again

Benefits of the Project

Nowadays, technology and human life cannot be separated as it has become the phenomenon of the world. But, how technology can help people that are visually impaired? Blind people usually can estimate the obstacle in front of them without knowing the actual distance of the obstacle from them. Mobility for blind people can be defined as mobility to move with safety and ease through the environment without relying on others. Most commonly mobility aids used by the blind are cane and guide dogs to facilitate their movement. But there are problems with this navigation support. The cane provides a limited preview for the user and as a result, the user has to be more careful to walk and mobile very slowly. As for the guide dogs, the training and coordinating the dogs with blind people are difficult tasks and the result is minimal.

In order to overcome this problem, research on the assistant devices for the blind has been done by many people to help reduce the limited ability of blind people. The assistive glove for the blind is a device that can help the visually impaired facilitate movement and perform daily activities without relying too much on others. The glove with the integration of ultrasonic sensor HC-SR04, Arduino UNO microcontroller will help the blind to facilitate movement and give an alert to the user if there are obstacles in front of them in the range of 2 cm to 400 cm.

The main purpose of this glove is to provide a device for blind people to detect the obstacles in various directions. The innovative glove is designed for visually disabled people for easy navigation.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The system does not have any extraordinary technical requirements. So the project is Technical feasible too, (i.e.) the executive can be any sophisticated input and output decide and Can have a set of their choice, the system is easy to operate on and user can easily understand the Operation of the Hardware and proper help is also a provider for the use. Technical feasibility can be only being evaluation after those phases during which technical. The issue is resolved, namely after the evaluation and design phase of our software development life cycle has been completed. Now a day very little is technically impossible consequently technical Feasibility looks at what is practically reason. Technical feasibility addresses three major issues.

The proposed equipment has the technical capability to hold the required data to be used in the new system.
