Smart blind stick

During walking on roads or streets, it is too difficult for visually impaired people to detect obstacles in front of them. But in this advanced and technology based era, it is not much difficult anymore to overcome these problems. The visually impaired people can not operate devices as normal people

Project Summary

During walking on roads or streets, it is too difficult for visually impaired people to detect obstacles in front of them. But in this advanced and technology based era, it is not much difficult anymore to overcome these problems. The visually impaired people can not operate devices as normal people do, so there is a solution in the form of voice recognition based stick which can reduce the difficulties of blind people. They can easily use this stick through speech. This stick is integrated with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and different sensors which can help blind people to detect obstacles in their path and to communicate with stick using Bluetooth device (mic, ear piece) and with other people.

Project Objectives

Our proposed project first uses ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles ahead using ultrasonic waves. And Water sensors detect the presence of water and, when placed in locations where water should not be present, a leak. When Wi-Fi is enabled, the sensor can send out a notification to the homeowner through GSM. One more important feature of the system is that the system allows the blind person to send out a SMS message with his/her GPS location to the person in case of trouble or being lost. The camera module used in this system can act as an eye for the visually impaired person. And Also Voice recognition system used to deliver the message though the human voice.

Project Implementation Method

First we are using ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles ahead using ultrasonic waves. And Water sensors detect the presence of water and, when placed in locations where water should not be present, a leak. When Wi-Fi is enabled, the user can send out a notification to the homeowner through GSM. One more important feature of the system is that the system allows the blind person to send out a SMS message with his/her GPS location to the person in case of trouble or being lost. The camera module used in this system can act as an eye for the visually impaired person. And Also a button is used to deliver the message to saved contact number. The blind stick is a revolutionary stick intended to improve navigation for visually impaired people. Here, we suggest an innovative blind stick that allows visually impaired people to use advanced technologies to navigate with ease. Along with water sensing, the blind stick is integrated with an ultrasonic sensor. First, our proposed project uses ultrasonic sensors to use ultrasonic waves to detect obstacles ahead. And water sensors detect the presence of water and a leak when put in areas where water is not expected to be present.

Benefits of the Project

To enable Blind people as a normal person and make him/her feel like he can see the world with the help of blind stick, make him/her independent,he/she can go anywhere without any getting any support of anyone and enjoy his/her life. In short its like granting eyes to blind person.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Final Deliverable will be the stick having raspberry pi and arduino and all working sensors and hardware, which will be able to detect objects and notify user about the obtruction ahead or in case of any fire, water logging, or harmful gas it will also notify user to be safe and what danger is ahead.
