This paper is based on GSM based smart energy metering system for remote monitoring and controlling of the power consumption patterns and energy billing.The proposed system utilizes remote communication with use of GSM module. The calculations related power consumption are made through a digital energy meter in terms of units and are passed on to the GSM module which acts as Data Forwarder. The GSM module will transmit the data to the supplier end. So the whole proposed method will function in two way communication as GSM module facilitates bidirectional communication. All details related the hardware and software are discussed in this paper. The benefits associated with this system are many, such as remote (wireless) communication, accuracy, global coverage range, minimal power loss in devices used. The information related power consumption is transmitted at the supplier end where it is stored and utilized for future references and customer billing system. The proposed communication infrastructure equipped with SMS technology provides fast and efficient assurance of these measures.

final product will be a compelete smart energy meter which will track line voltages contineuolsy and meaures the power consumed. at the end of month it will send bill to user as well as supplier end (wapda). user can have access to control his/her montly bill by controlling load at peak hour. in addition electric supplier company can have contol to cut the electric supply if any user don't pay his/her liabilties.
