Sign Language Translator Glove For Disable People
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryCommunication is the best media used by everyone to speak with one another. The problem arises when normal people and disable people want to talk with each other but incapable to do so.An automatic American sign language (ASL) to test translation system which is an attempt to lower the communication barrier between speaking and hearing disabled person and the other persons. Previous work was done on Image/Video based gesture recognition. Our system comprises of a glove that can be worn by speaking and hearing disabled person to enable conversation in real time with hearing person who cannot understand American Sign Language.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of our project is to design a glove based sign language translator that can convert 26 alphabets signed in American Sign Language into text and voice output. The design is going to target the speaking and hearing disabled community having knowledge of American Sign Language.
Project Implementation MethodThe identification of the sign is established using five flex sensors and one 3 dimensional accelerometer. The system translates the signs to the corresponding letters, using wireless communication, to an LCD that displays resultant letter and for voice output Matlab software is used to get accurate and efficient Audio sound.
Benefits of the Project- It is used to reduce the communication gap between the deaf and dumb community and normal people.
- It can be useful for speech-impaired and paralyzed patients who cannot speak properly.
- For students who want to learn American Sign Language.
We aim to deliver a working model of sign language translator glove that can convert 26 English letters from American Sign Language to text and voice format.
