Project Summary

In Pakistan, currently the private sector (housing societies and organizations) are still dependent on manhandled resources and use of multiple expensive fixed cameras when it comes to surveillance of large areas and masses, even if any organization is providing surveillance though UAVs, they are manhandled, i.e., require a remote pilot to operate the UAV. In this project we have proposed an autonomous UAV approach for the surveillance of large areas and big masses, requiring minimum manhandling and required resources. To be precise, our proposed UAV will:

  • Autonomously perform surveillance over a fixed pattern, without the requirement of a remote pilot. (Artificial intelligence)
  • Monitoring will be performed by transmitting live video transmission from UAV to Command center. (wireless communication)
  • UAV will have Self-power mechanism, using solar cells for charging in the day time (PV cells)
  • Will have six propellers for maximum thrust and flight efficiency. (Hex-copter)

Project Objectives

In this project we have proposed an autonomous UAV approach for the surveillance of large areas and big masses, requiring minimum manhandling and required resources.

Project Implementation Method

In this project hardware we have divided into three phases that describe the completion this project.

  1. Mechanical structure
  2. Autonomous predefined path
  3. Data capture and transmission

Benefits of the Project

The current and future benefits of the project is summarized as follows:

  1. The UAV can cover the large area like 1 to 3 kilometerswhich is difficult with conventional systems due to cost constrains mentioned before.
  2. The UAV can fly autonomously with less human resources and follow the designated task with real time video monitoring at ground command center.
  3. Designated route of the UAV can be changed or replaced as per the need or requirement.
  4. Additional navigation sensors can be mounted e.g., wind speed, temperature.
  5. Home-return algorithm is applied, i.e., in case of instability the UAV will return to home position.
  6. Manual control is also integrated in UAV in case of autonomous/network system malfunction.
  7. Predefined flight path way points can be changed in Real-time flight duration as desired according to the situation, e.g., if surveillance of some specific area is required due to some unwanted activity.
