Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe thought of developing this project comes to do some good things towards the society. Day by day the two wheeler accidents are increasing and leads to loss of many lives. According to a survey of Pakistan there are around 600 accidents occurring due to bike crashes per year. The impact when a motorcyclist involves in a high speed accident without wearing a helmet is very dangerous and can cause fatality due to increase number of accidents in urban cities like Karachi, Multan, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad and the list goes on.In addition, it has a great feature of detecting accidents and informs specific people via SMS with location and speed of the bike before the accident occurs with the help of GPS GSM based tracking system. We want to implement all the sensors within the helmet, which will send the information to the module connected with the bike engine wirelessly. This smart helmet system will have two modules, one on the helmet and another one on the bike. Helmet sensor are attached with the helmet module and vibration sensor, GPS and GSM are connected with the module on the bike. These two modules communicate wirelessly using Arduino as microcontroller.
Project ObjectivesThese are the following objectives which are listed below;
- If one of the sensor is not working so the bike wont start either it is the sensor of the helmet or the bike.
- We also developed mobile application for helmet in order to trace the bike.If the bike speed raises upto 50 kmph ,the message will be generated to our loved ones using GPS and GSM.
- Using this mobile application, we are able to spectate our bike location exactly.
This project are divided into two sections hardware and software phased both. Requirements are usually written in text, especially for?Agile-driven projects. However, they may also be visuals.the helmet mechanism contains ARDUINO MEGA microcontroller, which continuously monitors the sensor values. The IR sensor is employed to detect whether the person wear the helmet or not. If the person wears the helmet, the controller detects and transmits the(start) signal to the vehicle section and starts the bike engine. If the person removes the helmet, the controller sends the (stop) signal to the bike and turns off the bike (no current pass to the bike engine). The helmet also detects the vibration level and speed of the bike(50rpm) if there is any abnormal vibration and accident occur above 50 speed is detected it gets the location of the person and transmits the emergency alert through SMS for the rescue persons.
Benefits of the ProjectModern technology has improved the safety features of most regular vehicles, but motorcycles have seemingly not benefitted from the same technological revolution. What motorcyclists need is a solution to safety concerns that all motorists have, while additionally assisting the driver in a few quality of life improvements on the road. This project aims to do just that by giving motorcyclists an easy and effective way of staying aware of the potential dangers lingering outside of their natural field of view.
