Water is a very important resource for all the living things on earth. Plants, animals and human beings essentially require water for their survival. It is important to monitored physical, chemical contamination in the water. It is necessary that the quality of water should be checked at regular time interval because due to use of contaminated drinking water, human population suffers from varied of waterborne disease it is necessary to know the details about different physio-chemical parameters which are used for testing of water quality such as color, turbidity, temperature, conductivity, pH, and TDS (Total dissolved solids). Because these factors affect the quality of water that is used for drinking.

Project Objectives

This project consists of creating a portable device Water Tester with this device the tourists can monitor containments in the water who visit different places and the water inspection teams. The objectives of the proposed system include developing a portable system that will be able to detect containments in water and will perform analyzation on them, to perform run-time water testing. The proposed system has also objectives concerning time and costs i.e. it will be a cost-efficient and time-efficient solution.

Project Implementation Method

  • First, the sensor will detect the containments in water.
  • It will detect containments like Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Copper, Zinc, etc.
  • Then the data from the sensors are communicated with the device via serial communication.
  • Then the data will be analyzed by the algorithm for classification of water.
  • When water is analyzed then the result will be sent back to the user that the water is suitable for drinking. Users can also see the detailed containments that are involved in water and the result will display on the device led screen, smartphone. As it is also an IOT based project so the results are also communicated (along with the location of the device) to the server so that they would be used in the future for surveys etc.

Benefits of the Project

  1. The device will analyze the result by itself by showing the statement to the user that water is safe for drinking.
  2. The result of the water test and the location of the user will save on the server. Which user can also see it later.

  3. The proposed system will be an integrated system that will be capable to detect all the necessary containments and will automatically analyze the result.
  4. The proposed solution is to make a portable device that is cost-efficient that can detect most of the physical and chemical containments in water.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The proposed system will be an integrated hardware and software system. Furthermore, the deliverables will be the following:

  • Hardware Device that will be capable of acquiring the values through different sensors and will analyze and communicate the results to the mobile application.
  • Mobile Application that will be responsible to do communication with the device and display of results on the mobile screen.
