Road traffic accidents are one of the most critical problems for human life. Despite widespread measures being used to control and minimize this problem, road traffic accidents are facing a growing trend, day by day.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report on road safety for 2018, road traffic injuries cause more than 1.25 million deaths each year and have an enormous effect on human life and development. More specifically, these events are the major cause of death among young people aged between 15 and 29 years.

The main cause of these deaths are the people who drive their motorcycles without wearing a helmet and in case of an accident they get a lot of head injuries which causes death in most of the cases. Moreover, riding a motorcycle without safety(Helmet) is complete violation of traffic laws

To control road traffic accidents, our country has developed and implemented various road safety programs but are unable to cover all of the possible scenarios due to which road accidents occur. In the existing systems, there hasn’t been anything which detects riding the motorcycle if the person is wearing a helmet or not and give analysis of violation area wise so Govenment can take action. The existing systems only detect lane changing or a car and Signal breaking of a car and bike, and that too has put to use in only the major cities of Pakistan. And the wardens we have here are also way lenient on the motorcyclists that they let go the rider without the helmet because almost 80-90 percent citizen don't care to put on safety and with this much ratio, Traffic Warden have to handle to much workload. 

We are going to develop a system which uses the (HD-Camera) to detect the people riding the motorcycle without wearing the helmet and generate challans according to the criteria defined by the City Traffic Police, System will also generate area wise analysis report of people riding bike without helmet and give a dashboard to Admin for management. (HD-Camera) is a lot cheaper than the 4K camera’s already in use of the existing system and our system can be put to use in all of the cities of Pakistan and it could help decrease the number of traffic violation happening in our country due to the motorcyclists’ negligence of rules drastically.

Project Objectives

Our objective is to provide a system with Helmet detection and generate Challan and violation analysis accordingly, that is different from traditional/manual way of doing things which are done by Traffic Wardens, It can improve the existing system and bound the citizen to wear helmet for his/her safety concern and also help control the violation of traffic laws, the System Will have the following objectives:

  • Improve existing system.
  • Automate Manual way of violation control.
  • Gudie Citizen to Safety.
  • Provide Admins the heat map of most violated areas.  

Project Implementation Method

We will be using the High Definition Camera to extract frames from video. And use Image Processing with Deep learning methods to train detection model to improve system, So it can detect the rider without helmet, Recognize its License plate and generate Challan of that individual with analysis report of violation area wise.

Probable Algorithms that we'll be using to get most optimzed result with high accuracy.
