Project Summary

Our project is smart Bicycle-sharing or renting service named ‘RENT-A-CYCLE’. This service have automated mechanism which is accessible through mobile phone application. This service is deployed in guarded or gated areas for security purposes.  It is implemented in housing society. It can also be implemented in gated areas like universities and parks etc. this bicycle-sharing system have smart features like:

  • Automated locking and unlocking of the cycle
  • Automated deduction of cost or fees
  • GPS tracking of the cycle
  • Security features

Project Objectives

RENT-A-CYCLE is a bike sharing service. The main objective is to implement this project in parks, where people wish to ride a cycle. The cycles will have automatic locking mechanism. An APP which will control the locking system, GPS tracking and online payments. Hardware controlling through microcontroller.

Project Implementation Method

This project is about introducing a Smart bicycle renting system.

The main objective is to implement this project in parks, or gated societies(for security purpose) where people wish to ride a cycle. This system can be implemented also at:

1.Universities, where vehicles are not allowed inside and the departments are very far away from each other e.g. Karachi University.

2.Residential societies (gated areas), where market place is at some distance from the houses e.g. Askari IV, Naya Nazimabad, KDA overseas.

Benefits of the Project

Many cities are setting up bicycle rental programs to encourage physical exercise.

Through this service people who don’t own a bike can enjoy low cost ride in a defined geographical area.

the environmental conditions of our counrty,  70% of air pollution is due to transportation. it is very necessary to take an initiative for betterment of our environment. this bicycle service is bestfit for the problems of these solution. 

Cycling improves the health and well-being of the respective cyclists directly.

Indirectly contributing to a healthier, safer and more livable surrounding.

all around the world have these types of bicycle renting service, but in Pakistan we are lacking in these developments. 

these type of services also gives impact on the economy of the country

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

manufacturing of automatic locking mechanism: In designing of locking mechanism  First failure was Teflon pulley and curved iron rod for locking but due to the friction less surface slipping occurred. Then, second faillure was designing the lock through spur gear but it is also didn't suited projects requirements therefore, in third attempt helical worm mechanism was selected and it was  modified according to our project.

manufacturing of Dynamo: the size of dynamo which was needed is not available in the market so customize dynamo was manufactured according to projects requirments.

android application: features android app would consist of of QR scanning, GPS tracking, individual data bases, security feature, online payment deduction and automatic locking mechanism
