Project Summary

In Pakistan, there's alot of gas shortage specially in winter. There's been a crisis of gas and its being expensive day by day.

This project is carried out keeping in mind the loss of energy during the combustion of methane in biogas when it burns with H2S and other unwanted gases which as a result reduces the Net Heat Value (NHV) of biogas. The removal of gases and some solid particles are done by using filter and sorbent which filters the gas from solid particles and absorbs those unwanted gases. This method increases the net heating value of biogas and also reduces the emission of these gases and particle which pollutes the air in the environment. 

Project Objectives

The main objective this project is:

  • To improve the fuel quality of biogas by separate the most of the non useful gases and solid from the biogas and increasing the percentage of methane in the gas flow. 
  • To minimize the loss of net heating value by separating the non useful gases before combustion, so the heat that is lost in heating these gases during combustion could be minimize.
  • Through this project not only the we increases the net heating value but also it is eco-friendly too because the non useful  which was exhausted in air is stop by using this method.
  • This project uses cheap material as sorbents so this filter will be cheap can be produce without using any high tech manufacturing plant which makes it market friendly too. 

Project Implementation Method

  • It can implemented on running for future plants.
  • The filter will be connect with biogas reactor in which biogas has been produced.
  • Biogas passes through filter, in that filter the sorbent stops the solid particles from passing and absorbs those gases.
  • 50-70% removal of gases and 80-95% removal of solid particles fom biogbiogas is to be achieved. 

Benefits of the Project

  • Project is equally beneficial for small scale plant like for house holds and small local industries or large scale plants like for large biogas reactors filtration.
  • Because of it's efficiency and cheapness. This project work dually economically and Eco friendly.
  • This filter can be created by using indigenous resources and without using any high tech machinery.
  • The  filter is Eco friendly because it stop air from being pollute by carbon particles and H2S.
  • It makes it easy for user to use them instead of liquefied natural gas or coal in remote areas where natural gas lines have not been constructed or those place we can not construct them because of there remoteness and low population density make it un-conomical.
  • But biogas reactors make it possible to attain heat in these remote places.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • The evaluation was conducted to monitor the efficiency of the constructed filtration system.
  • The result shows that the filter was effective in reducing the concentration of the unwanted gases. The methane completes the 57% of the total raw biogas composition before filtration to 88% after filtration system.
  • The system was able to eliminate 72%.
  • Outcome of the evaluation on methane concentration for untreated and treated biogas. The result showed that the of the noncombustible constituents.
  • Biogas was tested before passing, it has a  flow rate of 5.6% Nm³/sec and methane flow rate of 3.65% Nm³/sec and after filtertion it has a flow rate of 5.13% Nm³/sec and methane flow rate of 4.7% Nm³/sec.
