Project Summary

Our project has two prominent features

  1. Smart Gate security
  2. Smart Car parking system

We have used RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), Arduino, Ultrasonic Senors, Transmitter, Receiver and servo motor as our main components. All these components will be controlled through Arduino. In Smart car parking system a signal from the ultrasonic sensors is generated to Arduino which converts the signal into code and send this code another arduino and LCD is attached with that arduino  transmission of data via transmitter and receiver. This will tell us about the available parking and occupied slots which will be displayed by means of LCD. Gate Security will be made possible through RFID tag. RFID card reader will read the RFID tag and compare it’s code to the list of authorized cars available in the database.

When card is put upon the RFID reader the data base is checked, if the RFID tag code matches with the code listed in the database then a signal is generated by the Arduino to the LCD and the motor. On the LCD "Authorized card" will be displayed, the motor rotaes 90 degree and the barrier gets open. In case of fake card a signal will be generated from the Arduino to the relay instead of motor and to the LCD hence barrier will not get open and LCD will display "Fake card try authorized one" and the red light will blink. We have relationships of students and cars in the database so if the students enter the gate with no car, no parking slot will be reserved and parking slots will not be upgraded. NRF is installed at the parking and at the gate that send and recieves the data of cars at the parking to the LCD at the gate. At the parking one Arduino mini is installed along with four ultrasonic sensors for 2 cars, the ultrasonic sensors detects the cars, sends data to the Arduino that generates a signal to the NRF that sends the data to and from the entrance gate. In such way this project will work. 

We designed this project for our own university but it can be implemented in parking plazas, shopping malls, universities and bazars in real time. It is cost effective, easy to implement, time saving and efficient and has a wide use in the coming future.

Project Objectives

“The development of secured, time saving, cost effective and efficient smart car parking and gate security system that can transmit and receive data wirelessly and provide better security to the university as well as lessen the parking problems in the campus”

The aim of the project is to design a system that makes the campus more secure and a car parking system that is environment friendly for the students and staff. The following factors make our project unique:

Better future amplification:

It is the need of the day, we go to shopping malls, markets and restaurants but do not find car parking nearby, after implementation of the project we will be able to lessen these issues if applied in these areas.

Easy implementation:

This project is portable and can be easily setup and installed in dfferent areas, from an organization to a university where students or staff security is required.

Cheap but worthy:

The project equipment is cheap and has a valuable demand in the market. It fulfills all the demands of the customers and provide all the facilities.

Solve two problems unanimously:

This project is multitasking that is it can solve multiple problems (gate secutity and car parking) at one time without slowing down.

Flexibility:

We can modify the project as to the customers need. Can be set up at a higher level where the amount of vechiles and staff is more.

It is time saving:

It saves time as it directly tells us the free parking slot at the entrance gate and the driver doesn't need to search for parking secondly the students does not need to make queue for the card checking at the entrance gate .

Is efficient:

It saves fuel as it tells you on the gate that if the parking has a free slot or not otherwise you would have to search the whole parking for a free slot which consumes time and fuel.

Reduces human efforts:

It requires no man power as it is automated. No need of security guards checking the cards of students or car tags of the students/staff cars at the entrance gate.

Better use of technology:

All sensors, devices and database are used in better way that benefits human.

Project Implementation Method

This project will be completed using Carson’s method which involves step by step prototype methodology by implementing the project in parts separately and combining them at the end.

This project has three phases. Each phase is divided into several blocks according to its complexity. Each block will be completed and tested 1st and then combined to the respective phase. This allows step by step implementation and testing of the blocks and easy error correction.

In 1st phase of the project we will complete Gate security system, in 2nd phase we will complete smart car parking system and 3rd phase of the project comprises of the real time implementation of both the phases.

The timed implementation of different sections of the project are listed below:

Project will be implemented in real time, gate security as well as smart parking system. We are making this project for our university  so we are using university car parking for the project. We have selected a portion of parking for the project where 8 cars will be parked.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

In this project three main technicalities are ivolved.

1. The data base of students and cars.

2. The mangment of car parking through transmitters and recievers at the entrance gate.

3. The working of barrier at the gate using RFID device and tag.

starting of with the data base. Data base has a list/table of entities i.e of students and cars. we have different relationships of the entities because some students may not have cars and some might have so we made relationships in the database of students and cars for the parking.

We manage the working of transmitters and recievers. transmitters have the range upto 100 meters, the operating voltage is 1.9 to 3.6 volts and working on high bit rate of 2Mbps that take the information through Arduino and Ultrasonic sensor  (HC-SR04) and send data to the recievers at the entrance gate that is diplayed on 16*4 LCD. Ultrasonic sensors works on sound waves, when these waves are cut by any object it sends data in the form of 0's and 1's. Four Ultrasonic sensors (HC-SR04) and one Arduino make a block that can manage 2 cars at the parking.The reason for installing 2 sensors for 1 car is that we might get any object instead of a car and the sensor may detect it as 1, so it makes our results more efficient.

The gate security have a servo motor (MG-995) RFID card Reader (MRFC-522) and a barrier linked with servo motor. When card is put upon the RFID reader the data base is checked, if the RFID tag code matches with the code listed in the database then a 5v signal is generated by the Arduino to the LCD and the servo motor. On the LCD "Authorized card" will be displayed, the motor rotaes 90 degree clockwise and after delay of few seconds it will came back to its initial position, in such way the barrier gets open. In case of fake card a signal will be generated from the Arduino to the relay instead of motor and to the LCD hence barrier will not get open and LCD will display "Fake card try authorized one" and the red light will blink. 

Smart gate security is working 100% effiently without any delay. We have choosen a section of our university car parking comprises of 8 car parking slots that will be automated. Both the sections of the project i.e Smark gate security and parking system will be implemented in real time and will work as a product ready to install at any place where needed or demanded.
