RTIP-SBG is a real-time Image processing system for detecting obstacles such as staircases, cars, etc., and gives directions to the user to travel from place to place using the camera (Rather mobile phone camera or any other option). RTIP-SBG will warn of the obstacles on the road to the user. RTIP-SBG will aid the user when required. The mobile camera input is enough to commence the processing. The RTIP-SBG will help the user navigate through obstacles indoors and outdoors, RTIP-SBG will also guide the user on how many steps he/she should move forward, backward, left, or right. As English is a bit difficult for some people, so we will also be adding Urdu to assist the user. Our goal is to help blind people by providing them with an easy, user-friendly application to make their lives easier. There are many benefits of using our software. It is straightforward to access since everyone has an android mobile nowadays, so it is easily accessible to everyone. It provides a multi-language user experience to the user, which makes using this RTIP-SBG much easier.

Project Objectives

RTIP-SBG is our project's name, which is to be developed by our team. The software will run on an android mobile phone. RTIP-SBG will consist of two interconnected parts which will be run concurrently. These parts are Image Processing and Voice Recognition.  They will wait for commands from the user; when an obstacle appears in front of the camera, it will instantly alert the user through voice notification. Regular users will also be able to use this RTIP-SBG. The RTIP-SBG is a real-time system that detects and identifies obstacles and giving warnings to the user.  The RTIP-SBG aims to help the blind person to get through every day's problems quickly. Since all the needed data will be statically or dynamically stored on the RTIP-SBG, there is no need for an external database. The RTIP-SBG uses Haar-Cascade, BLOB, and SURF algorithms for object detection. There is no need for any login information or password to use the RTIP-SBG. The user cannot use RTIP-SBG during nighttime or in dim light.

Project Implementation Method

For RTIP-SBG we are using the phased implementation methodology.

which includes the following phases:

  1. Design phase: (designing of all screens of our project in android studio) in first three weeks
  2. development phase: developing phase starts from the 4th week till week no 9
  3. Deployment phase: after training all the algorithms/models deployment phase starts from the 10th week till the 12th week
  4. testing phase:  From 12th onward we will perform several tests and will modify our projects if needed.
Benefits of the Project

This Application is proposed for visually impaired persons. Visually impaired people are often unaware of dangers in front of them, even in familiar environments. Furthermore, in unfamiliar environments, such people require guidance to reduce the risk of colliding with obstacles

The benefits of this system are given below:

  1. this application can be operated through button clicking or by Voice commands
  2. voice commands can be given in either Urdu or English language.
  3. User will be notified by voice commands if any obstacle appears in front of him/her 
  4. the live location will be given to the user through voice commands 
  5. if any obstacle arrives user will be guided to move left or right.
