Project Summary

Journal management is a difficult and time-consuming operation, especially if no automation is used. During the publishing cycle, authors and other personnel participating in the journal management process, such as editors, reviewers, and publishers, encounter plenty of issues. Publishers Paramount is a web-based information system for the management of scientific electronic journals which provides features like publishing articles, article tracking system, plagiarism checker, title Duplicate Checker and review system, existing journal filtering. We are presenting a web-based system which will provide support to all the participants in article submission like authors, editors and reviewers in the publishing process.There is also reader role in our system who can visit our web-based system and search for journals and articles. Our system will be implemented as a server side application which will be developed with the help of Ruby on Rails scripting language.

Project Objectives

  • To provide ease in publishing articles for the authors.
  • To help find the Plagiarism in their articles.
  • To help authors find duplication in the article’s Title
  • To provide help in Peer Reviewing of articles.
  • To help all the personnel including authors to have better and consistent approach in managing their jobs.
  • To help manage all their previous, pending and on-going jobs on single platform.

Project Implementation Method

Our Journal Management system will consist of three tiers. Following are the tiers: The presentation tier, the business logic tier, and the data tier. The Data tier is meant by the Database Management System which will handle the Data queries of our journal management system. We will use MySQL or PostgreSQL as per our need. PostgreSQL is a free and open source relational database management system. Whereas MySQL is a relational database management system developed by Oracle that is based on structured query language. Both systems are heavily designed to manage the integrity of the data and can help us to avoid any possible conflict. The business logic tier will work between the data tier and presentation tier. In other words we can say that the business logic tier will be the backend of our system. We have planned to use Ruby on Rails as our business logic tier. Where Ruby is the core language and rails is its framework which we will use in our system. Ruby on rails will be a good choice because it is highly compatible to create web applications which are non-standard customized projects. We have chosen MySQL or PostgreSQL because both the database systems are easy to integrate and will handle our complex queries in an efficient way. Now here comes the Presentation tier, this tier will be shown to the users and the presentation tier will constantly interact with the business tier and the business tier will be interacting with the data tier. In the Title: Publisher Paramount 2 presentation tier we will use HTML, CSS, Javascript, React.js.

The approach we will use is Feature Driven Development, and it is a framework of agile methodology. As the name implies, FDD approach is a strategy that progresses through features. Our web-based management system project will be developed in stages dependent on features.

  • Research scholars can easily publish their research articles using our system with different features.
  • Academic Writers can also use our system to publish their articles.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

In its final form, the project will take the shape of a Web Application. Authors that benefit from our Web Application are those who are more interested in having their papers examined and putting them in a format that can be published. The authors will be able to check for plagiarism in the title of his journal, as well as peer review and publication tools. Authors who want to write and publish their journals or articles can only use this Web application.
