Prototype Development of Wireless Haptic Glove for hand interface with robotic claw
In this project a Haptic glove will be developed and interfaced with a VR headset. Through the VR Headset virtual objects will be generated; which when detected by the haptic glove will generate a stimuli, in response to the virtual object. In short it will be felt like as if an actual object is being touched. Moreover it will be further interfaced with a robotic claw that will be able to interact with real objects while the haptic glove will be interacting with virtual objects.
The following tasks will be performed in this project:
(1) Development of Haptic glove with flex sensors to track the movement of hand.
(2) Programming of VR Headset to generate virtual objects and to interface it with the haptic glove.
(3) Installing motors on haptic glove and writting algorithm to generate stimuli accordingly.
(4) To Interface it with robotic claw(Developed seperately) - Phase II.
1. Haptic glove will have two parts:
a) Flex sensors to track the movement of the hand.
b) DC motors to generate Stimuli in response to virtual objects.
2. VR Headset will be programmed to generate virtual objects. SDK(Software Development Kit) for VR Headsets will be used.
3. A High Performance Computer will be required to integrate the VR headset and the haptic glove and also to run the complex algorithms.
4. A system will be required to interface the haptic glove with the robotic claw - Phase II
1. The project can be used to develop Simulators for training of various sorts such as cars, fire fighting, aeroplanes etc
2. The project can be used in the field of medicine to perform virtual surgeries.
3. It can be used in bomb disposal robots to provide the operator a better understanding of the environment through real time feedback.
Phase I will be carried out in which:
1. Oculus Rift VR Headset will be interface with a HPC containing NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti Graphics Card. It will produce virtual objects moreover it will also control the haptic glove.
2. Haptic glove will be developed by using Flex sensors and DC motors(9V). They will be integrated with Arduino Uno Rev3.
3. Algorithm will be developed and implemented.
4. Error correction, Fine Tunning and Code Debugging will be carried out.
