We are going to use biometric feature (Thumbprint) to mark the students attendance. This project will provide an ease for the
teachers for maintaining the attendance records. By this project, we are making it possible to use hardware and software platforms of engineering to facilitate our attendance record systems. The hardware of our project will be a portable-pod (device) which can be carried by the teacher and then passed along in the students to mark their attendance using thumbprint. The ngerprint scanner will scan the thumbprint and then passed the data towards the device storage. The device then compares the ngerprint with
the already stored ngerprint data in the database, and if the match is found the device will mark the attendance automatically and LCD will be displaying the students name, cms-id and the department. So our this project, completely overcomes the manual procedure of attendance marking in which a teacher usually calling out the students names one by one or passing an attendance sheet in which there are very high chances or marking proxies. Furthermore, our project will provide a transparency in attendance marking
procedure such that, if any student claims that he/she is not satised with his/her percentage, the teacher can simply show his/her attendance record.
- Making data-base using MySQL.
- Uploading all the students data enrolled in a certain department of a certain semester on the data-base.
- The access will have to department Chairperson and Faculty members.
- Assigned teacher will take data of students enrolled in his/her subject.
- Teachers thumbprint in order to initialize and end, the attendance procedure.
- Students thumbprint for marking the attendance.
- Fetching the fingerprint data from the device efficiently.
- Uploading the marked attendance data on the server effectively by plugging the device with PC by using USB-port which will provide a GUI (Graphical user interface).
- GUI will provide 2 options, either to generate an Excel sheet or to open the browser (Oracle) directly.
- New data will be uploaded for new semester and previous data will be removed.
Our designed system will initially scans the assigned teacher's thumbprint in order to initialize the attendance procedure. Then one by one the device will scans students thumbprint to mark their attendance. Once a student's
thumbprint is scanned, the device will automatically his/her name, department and cms-id after comparing the stored thumbprint data in the device database. Once all students attendance being marked, the teacher will again
scans his/her thumbprint to end the attendance procedure. Now by plugging the device with the teachers PC through a USB-cable, it automatically show 2 options. Either to generate an Excel sheet containing all the present students
name, department and cms-id, or to directly upload this attendance data on the Oracle.

- Making a data-base on MySQL, in order to upload all the students data (enrolled in a certain department of a certain semester). The access to this data-base will have by department Chairperson and faculty members.
- Teacher will have only those students data that are enrolled in his/her subject.
- By detecting teacher’s biometric (thumb), the attendance procedure will start and students can mark their attendance by scanning their thumb on the device.
- Time duration for attendance marking can be for 15 minutes or it depends on the teacher.
- Once the attendance procedure is completed, the teacher will again scan his/her thumb and the device will end the attendance procedure.
- Here all of the data (including class starting and ending time as well attendance data) is stored within the device.
- By connecting the device to the PC through USB-port, it will provide a GUI.
- The GUI will provide us 2 options, either to generate an Excel file which shows the student’s name, cms-id, department and semester, or to open the Oracle (browser) directly.
- For the next semester, the previous data will be removed and new one will be uploaded.
