Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryIn Pakistan features of motorbikes are not that much digitalized they are quite simple and limited, what if there is a portable kit which makes everything digital and tells us the exact amount of fuel in the tank, mileage per liter, estimated distance which could be travelled within the remaining fuel and tells us the quality of fuel which is being used in the bike, Engine temperature, Mobile Oil quality and Battery health, wouldn’t that be great. So, the idea is to design a portable kit which will tell us about all these parameters as there is no proper mechanism in bikes which notifies us about all these parameters. It would be a great contribution in the industry of automobiles.
Project ObjectivesOur primary objective is to create a cost efficient and a robust bike mileage kit. We are looking forward to manufacture a product which can be sold anywhere in the market with its reasonable and economical rates, so that everyone would be able to afford it. Our aim is to design, assemble and fabricate this kit in an attractive, presentable and a neat way so that it speaks for itself and looks in order when placed on a bike. Our objective is to facilitate the riders with this unique and innovative kit because majority of them want these kind of features in their bikes to know about the fuel consumption, efficiency, quality and the estimated distance they can travel on their bike with the fuel left, rest of them would love to have this kit on their bikes when they will get to know about its features, growing demand & need in the market and stunning quality. Our aim is to introduce this kit/product in the market and as well as in the industry of motorcycles (Pakistan) because unfortunately our industry is lagging behind other countries when it comes to automation, innovation and technology. Therefore, we desperately need products like these in our industry to cope up with the World and move towards innovation.
Project Implementation Method- Quantity Of Fuel:
- Load Cell:
This method is used because there are no chances of sparking here as it will be installed under the tank or even if it is installed inside its completely safe. Installation of load cell inside the tank would not be preferred because the tank is usually uneven from the inside, so the pressure and weight distribution inside the tank would not be on a single point.
Now the second method is preferred here, in which the load cell will be installed underneath the fuel tank but in this case the load cell will also measure the weight of fuel tank, so for this setback we will minus the weight of tank from the total weight measured. In this way we will get our exact weight in grams, which then can be easily converted in to liters, as one Liter is equal to thousand grams.
2.Mileage and Range:
NEO-6M GPS module has been used to calculate the distance and mileage per liter. An external antenna will be connected with the GPS. After that VCC is connected with 3.3 Volts of Arduino Uno board. Ground is connected. RX of GPS is connected with RX of Arduino Uno board. TX of GPS is connected with TX of the Arduino Uno board.
3. Quality of Fuel:
Quality fuel sensor will be used to check the quality of fuel. It will be installed above the carburetor of the bike. Composition of fuel will be tested by the sensor. Composition of High octanes and low octanes will be checked. It will be placed inside a metal box and will be fixed properly in order to avoid any kind of leakage.
4. Engine Temperature:
A temperature sensor will be installed on the cylinder of the bike (a small and compact kit will be designed for this purpose in order to avoid any contact of sensor with the air), this sensor will be interfaced directly with the Arduino Uno, it will give us the temperature digitally and whenever it will exceed 101C it will warn the rider and will give a beep
Mobile Oil Quality
Methodology and implementation:
For this purpose, an engine oil quality sensor will be installed inside the Engine oil chamber, this sensor will check the quality of engine oil and whenever it needs to be changed it will inform the rider, and an icon will be displayed on the LED. This sensor will be interfaced with the Arduino Uno.
- Battery Health:
Battery ageing is one of the most and important factor when it comes to the bikes and other automobiles. One never knows about the health of the battery. Usually in Pakistan people go for 2nd hand batteries but the question is that, is that battery really in good health? The rider never gets to know about it, so for this purpose battery health (Feature) will also be added in the “Portable Bike Mileage Kit”.
Methodology:
- Terminal Voltage Method:
When the battery is discharging, the internal impedances drop and that’s where terminal voltage method is applied to check the voltage drop. As EMF of the battery is directly proportional to the terminal voltage.
- (SOC) and (SOH) determination:
To determine the SOC and SOH, Algorithms will be developed and will be applied on the battery.
