PLC BASED SMART CAR PARKING
Pakistan is one of the most populous countries with a rapid increase annually. With this rapid increase in population, the number of the car is also increasing rapidly which are causing problems on a daily basis. One of the major problem caused by this increase in the number of cars parking. Parking space provides with rush areas like markets, banks, public places are very less than the requirement. Due to this lack of space for parking compel people to park their cars in illegal space. This illegal parking cause traffic problems and sometimes accidents on roadsides. Security is also a big problem in illegal parking cars can be theft or to chained by traffic police. There are different approaches to solve this problem one of the most used methods is smart parking. Different countries are having their own different smart parking. Japanese are using underground parking while the USA and China have vertical parking. Canada using plain parking. For Pakistan, the system propose is vertical rotary parking system. The motor is used to drive the body of parking. Slots are given for parking cars. Each unit of parking can adjust 6 to 16 cars. Different sensors are used in the parking system. Proximity sensors are used to sense the reference slot. IR sensors are used to detect the car in slots. PLC is the main unit of the parking system which is used to control the whole parking while Arduino Mega is used to controlling and driving motor. For the payment system, we have used RFID card reader which will be controlled by Arduino Mega. User will have to recharge their card in advance which means that on each entry user will be charged a specific amount or entry number. If the user pay 100 rupees and on each entry fee is 10 then the user will be allowed to enter just 10 times on recharge. PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) sends a signal to the Arduino and Arduino will perform an action. Relays are used to control actions from PLC to motor and sensors. Ladder Logic Diagram language is used for programming PLC using WinProLadde an IDE of Fatak PLC. When a car enters to the premises of parking the parking will stop moving once the car is park the user will come out and press a start button to start the motor and take the slot with the car up to next level. Initially, in the prototype we have used viper motor with high torque so that it can bear the load of cars. Viper motor has its own gearbox to control back and forth free moment.
First of all, we have designed the CAD design of parking and then we have made parts of the parking body. Some 3D printed parts are also required in the parking so we have ordered it from Karachi. We have built a circuit of motor, Sensors, relays, with PLC. Now the stage came when we had started our programming in WinProLadder. We initially made a motor start, stop the program and then H-bridge with relays to change the motor direction. Now we have made a program for each sensor on each level i.e. proximity sensor 1 is for slot number so we have made program explaining when the sensor is on slot 1 will come to ground and the car will be parked and then the motor will be on to move the slot up. The user will be asked to pay before taking out the car from the slot. IR sensor will work when the car is parked, as the IR sensor will be on and will tell PLC to start the motor, if the slot is empty the motor will remain stopped until human interference. To ensure the security of car and user the motor will never start before the user press the start button out of parking. An Android app will be provided to the user to find out parking easily to save its time and cost. Arduino mega will provide signals to Motor and some sensors and Arduino will take command from PLC as PLC is main unit of the parking system.
