In today’s world of technology and advancement in industries, the production rate has increased tremendously. Generally, manufacturing industries keep manufacturing the same models with little variation in height, color, weight, and shape. And here sorting plays an important role. In such cases, industries can’t bear human errors in sorting these products. Thus, it becomes necessary to develop Low-Cost Automation (LCA) for sorting these products inaccurate manner. Industrial automation mainly focuses on developing automation having low cost, low maintenance, durability, and making the system as user-friendly as possible. Finally, here we will develop an LCA system which will first identify the material of the object and its length after identification it will trigger the respective motors and mechanical system that will finally sort objects on the basis of their material and height variation using DC geared motors which are controlled by Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and the conveyer in the system passes the object in front of sensors and thus sorting logic is decided.
Programmable Logic Controller PLC makes life easier for object sorting processes and recognizes the product fulfills other requirements. Programmable Logic Controller PLC highly effected manufacturing industries these systems is very accurate and time-saving to increase manufacturing efficiency and the chance of error zero percent and safety base system. A number of technologies and concepts can be applied to develop the material management system depending on the applicability and get the desired output. However, our project will be based on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) that will be used for the automation of object sorting systems depending on height, color, and material. Also, our project objective is to get the desired output with accuracy, in minimum time, and be fluent in every respect on color-wise sorting of the objects.
The project will comprise conveyor belts, a pushing mechanism, and a sensing mechanism fully capable of detecting and identifying the products and will sort the products as per the requirement. The controlling device of the whole system is the ARDUINO controller for color sorting and PLC for conveyor and movable mechanism. The system is powered by an Arduino to control the sorting system. Collection baskets are used to collect samples sorted by the pistons mounted parallel to each one. The Arduino with color sensor and PLC controlled conveyor and sorting servo motor with the relay in order to achieve the desired functionality and demonstrate the fully automated product sorting system. The system consists of a conveyor belt to carry products from one end to collection baskets. DC motors are used to move conveyor belts. Servo motor mechanism is used to put force on the object to push them into the basket according to the color of the project.
To conclude, the desired result from the combination of hardware used is obtained which can be further advanced and can be implemented in real scenarios of the manufacturing industries and can easily take over the place of the manpower utilized for such kinds of works. It also reduces the time required to complete the specific tasks without compromising on quality and accuracy of the work. This project has been effectively designed to handle the required task. It can identify the specific color of the object and grab it and place it in a required area as the user wants with the help of an RGB color sensor by sensing the color of the object.
