In order to overcome this problem we proposed the idea of automatic packing machine to make this process quick and hectic free. The main aim of our project is to design a simple and economic machine, able to provide the user with automatic device, to achieve this desired aim we will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) model. A low cost automated
packing machine, is simple mechanical and electrical devices put into existing production machinery, which can be used by small enterprises that would help to reduce their cost of
production. Packing Machine is mainly used for food and other solid utility products as well. This would enable the operation of this equipment by semiskilled and unskilled labour, with a little training. We will design Human Machine Interface (HMI) of the recommended integrated circuit for consistent set of menu buttons to help operators navigate easily. Here we will use different weights for packing but these weights will be fixed, this machine will pack products according to the selected selected weight. The material is fed into the hopper which is situated on top of the machine. Hooper has flap arrangement to allow or prohibit the further flow of the material. The flap is actuated by an actuator, when the flap is open the material falls into a bowl. A load cell is placed beneath the bowl to measure the weight of the material falling in it. When a specic amount of material falls into the bowl or packet, flap is closed. The material is then packed in plastic bag using heater for vertical seal. A cutter separates the packets which is placed between the horizontal sealing jaws. Finally, an accurately weighed packet is made. All of these functions are precisely controlled by using Programmable Logic Controller.
We have 4 main objectives of the project:
1. Design of CAD Model for the Proposed Project
2. Determining the weight of product using load cell
3. Filling, Sealing and Packing of the Product
4. Human Machine Interface (HMI) design for the project
We have design the 4 objectives of the design and acheiving these objectives steps by steps. We first designed the CAD model of the proposed project and review that model thorugh fyp committee after the approval from the committe we then moved to achieve the second objective which is the load cell interfacing for weight measurement. To interfacce load cell with PLC we used analog module. Third objective of the project is filling, sealing and packing of the product as the weight of the project is determined through load cell and then pack the product with different weight. To operate this machine easily we will design the Human Machine Interface (HMI), through this machine is user friendly.
Project Implementation MethodFirst of all we think about the problem faced by small enterprises and to solve these problems we design the problem statement of the project. To solve these problems we designed objectives to solve these problems step by step. We did literature review related to our problem statement and project. We reviewed different journals, conference papers and book chapters. After doing literature review we gather the data and make it presentable, this took 2 weeks. Then we studied the working Programmable logic controller (PLC), input and output module of PLC for 4 weeks. After studying PLC we move towards design of CAD model of the proposed project and it took 3 weeks.After designing of model studied different sensors,pistons, solenoid vales and motors used in our project for 7 weeks. Then moved towards PLC programming and code burning in PLC for 3 weeks. Now we are in stage of making proposed structure of the project it will take 1 week, and then we will be having 5 weeks for hardware and circuit implementation of the proposed project. Last stage of our project is HMI (Human Machine Interface) design of the proposed project to help the operator to operate it easily.
Benefits of the ProjectIn industries or for small enterprises manually packing the product takes alot of time i,e weighting, wrapping, sealing and packing, also we need labour to pack the product and its also unhygienic. It may also delay the supply to market. Manual packing increase production cost, it may also delay the supply to market. Our goal is to develop an economical industrial automation system for packing solid utility products on the basis of different weights. The overall time and cost is minimized, more over it reduce the production cost. Similarly the efforts of workers is reduced and its benefical for small enterpries who cannot afford wages of labours.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableFinal Deliverable is the prototype of packing machine to pack the product according to specific weight, these weight should be fixed and user has to select these fixed weight, we are using 250 gram and 500 gram fixed weight but these weights can be changed. A conveyor is designed and proximity sensor is used to detect the packet on coveyor, when proximity one detect the packet the coveyor stops and a fixed amount of products falls from the flap when the packet is filled coveyor move forward proximity two is used again to detect packet when packet is detected by proximity two sealer is on to seal the packet. To inteface the load cell with PLC we used analog module and using the output of the analog module we make conditioning on it.
