Our company is trying to add our contribution to the betterment of environment by introducing products that are environmental friendly and sustainable . we are a paper based products manufacturing company who produces products made of paper . sounds ordinary ? wait . 

The speciality of our paper is that its plantable . yes a paper that is plantable . 

We are introducing an innovative way to prepare and waste paper that’s totally sustainable and eco friendly . our plantable paper is made from waste paper pulp and embedded seeds of many variaties.

Problem statement : every production process has two major steps which can be a threat to the environment .

we as a paper based products company are also addressing these two phases related to paper products 

1. production step :

• paper production process has a major hazard for environment when it comes to its raw material . lets have a look at some statistics 

93% of raw  material for paper production comes from trees 

It takes 4.4 tons pf virgin trees to make 1 ton of virgin paper pulp . 

In 2006 , over 6.5 million trees were cut down to make only 16 billion paper resulting in 253 million pounds of waste . 

World wide comsumptiom of paper has risen by 400% in past 40 years with 40% of harvested trees for paper manufacturing 

According to a survey , a single human consumes 27 kgs of paper annually . 

• the use of plastic as carrier and shopping bags has appeared as a major threat for this earth during the past years . 
• 2. wastage / disposal process : 

• paper waste makeup 26% of total municipal solid waste in landfill or 67 million tons of 258 million tons  total solid municipal waste in 2014 .
• in case of plastic bags , it takes 500 years to decompose depending on the material of plastic used . on the other hand it is a source of pollution including visual pollution  ,water pollution etc
• Pakistan produces 3.3 million tonnes of plastic each year which if compiled together , will be twice the height of k2 .

Project Objectives

1) Say no to plastic

We as a plantable paper production company are intended to eridicate the plastic pollution of pakistan. As by the statistics stated above,Pakistan is the 3rd most polluted country of the world. and 17% of the total waste in Pakistan comprises of plastic and its products . plastic lives forever. once you create it , it never goes away. In this case, we are introducing a unique type of paper that is plantable i.e which grows plants on disposal. In this way, we can eridicate plastic and in turn grow plants out of the waste. 

2) Clean Green Pakistan 

We, by introducing plantable paper products are decreasing the total plastic pollution of pakistan which definitely will bring cleanliness in our towns, parks, and country. on the other hand we are taking another benefit from the disposed used product by planting more plants in Pakistan and increasing the greenery in Pakistan.

3) Increase Plantation 

Our major objective is to increase plantation in Pakistan which is very less as compared to the other countries of the world. And that is why Pakistan is facing many environmental problems.

4) Building a green mindset among citizens

Our company’s name is clearly defining our mission statement . There are 3 dimensions of everything . 3D green name suggests that we want greenery everywhere in every dimension i.e there should be a green mind which indicates internal sustainability of a person, as well as external greenery by planting plants .  We are contributing towards eradicating the factors that are a threat for this earth and are a source of natural resources disruption.

we are acting upon the principle of 3R by reducing, reusing and recycling paper 

6) Responsible production of paper

• instead of using wood as major raw material of our paper production, we are using post consumer material i.e used or waste paper and seeds as major raw material  .

• it all starts with waste paper , or the fibres obtained from previously used paper or card 
• the waste paper is soaked in water for around 48 hours , then shredded to create pulp
• the pulp is placed in containers full of water , and add various type of seeds ( small sized seeds) like lavender, daisy , poppy or even edible plants like carrots, tomatoes, basil or rocket .
• the pulp is sieved and then pressed to remove water and bind the fibres together creating new paper .

• It looks amazing , it has an irregular surface that is rough to touch embellished with seeds , best for bags,cards,packagings and other above mentioned products  

  Also the whole paper is handmade so there is no toxic chemicals and gases involved as there are in industrial paper production.

7) Responsible Consumption and disposal 

The disposal process is also very eco friendly. when a consumer dispose off the product after use, the paper in the product decomposes within 1 to 1.5 months and the seeds in the product starts germinatination and converting into new baby plants.

Project Implementation Method

1) Receiving order from customer/client

The first step is to receive order from the customer including, the requirements,size,colours,printing,text,price etc. While receiving order it is important to note the location and place of customer where the product will be disposed. The seeds will be added according to the climate, requirements of specific regions.

2) Collection of raw material 

The raw material will be collected from the selected locations throughout the country i.e used paper . The used paper will be categorized according to the no of time the paper is being recycled. A paper can be recycled upto 3 to 5 times. Every time the price of used raw paper gets less .

The raw material will be gathered at the production site in located cities i.e Lahore, Karachi . 

3) Soil testing 

The third step is the soil testing of customer place or where the product will be used and disposed. Soil testing will involve the nutrients level, moisture and other soil tests . 

The seeds will be added according to the above mentioned factors.

The soil testing includes the soil type, pH, nutrients deficiencies etc and according to the tests , suited seeds are added in the products.

4) Plantable paper production 

The used paper is dipped in water for min 48 hours and then shredded to create pulp.

the pulp is placed in containers full of water , and add various type of seeds ( small sized seeds) like lavender, daisy , poppy or even edible plants like carrots, tomatoes, basil or rocket .

the pulp is sieved and then pressed to remove water and bind the fibres together creating new paper .

The printing process is done on the dried paper 

The paper is then shapped into multiple products according to the order i.e bags etc

5) Transportation 

The order is then delivered to the customer.

1) A decrease in plastic pollution by 50% and total solid waste by 12% ( A solution to national problem)

We are introducing plantable paper bags, product packegings, pamphlets and brouchers, wedding and event invitation,business cards,calanders and much more. These all products being easily decomposable and leaving a good residue behind in the form of plants can definitely reduce pollution in Pakistan.

2) Recycling 

Through this project most of the paper used will be recycled and bring to use again instead of being a part of trash and source of pollution 

3) Increase in plantation by 33% 

There can be a total increase in Plantation by 33% around Pakistan because every disposed product will be a source od new plant for the country and for this environment 

4) A total decrease in smog and other types of air pollution 

As plants are environmental buffers, they continously cleanse the air and make it clean to a certain level .

5) Lower cost and more profit 

As the cost of raw material is less as comapred to producing paper from tree wood, and also due to handmade nature , the production cost will be very less because there will be no industrial machines and workplace required . That is why the initial cost will be very less

6) Government Support 

The Government and other stakeholders are very open to introduce alternatives of plastic so there is a strong chance that we will be able to get government and stakeholder's support for this cause. 

The Government had introduced Tree plantation Campaign and put a ban on plastic bags in federal capital in this context. Also there is a trend among companies,brands and businesses to be called a green business . In this case we can gain customers for our product easily.

we can come up as a market leader as there is no other company producing this product 

8) Media coverage 

As a business it is easy to grab media attention towards this national cause as the approach is innovative and productive.

9) Secure life on land and water 

Besides land, this will also secure life in water as annually many water fishes and life dies due to plastic bag trapping.

Order management system will be prepared to manage inventrory and orders for a smooth running of the business

Soil testing 

Soil samples from soilless mixes are tested differently than samples from field soil. There are three commonly used methods of testing soilless media using water as an extracting solution: 1:2 dilution method, saturated media extract (SME), and leachate Pour Thru.

There is also computerised testing of soil as well.

Printing 

The 3D/4D printing is done successfully on the products 

Seed selection 

A software will be designed to select the seed according to the region. The software will use big data for selecting the seed type to be added to the product. The software will suggest seed according to the moisture, temprature, nutrients of that region.
