         Recycling is one of the most important processes of the modern world as the environment is facing treats from deforestation and global warming. The purpose of this project is to design and develop an automatic paper recycling machine for domestic and office use. To make recycling easy and reduce human efforts the machine is made fully automatic. The machine includes all the processes of recycling that are used in industries for paper recycling. The machine comprises of different modules like shredding, grinding, pulp making, molding and drying. In the shredding process, used papers are added to the shredder where the paper is shredded into small chunks and the paper pieces are then directed to the grinder. In grinder the paper is beat with water and a thick pulp is made. The pulp making process is an essential process in recycling paper. The pulp removes all the information that was previously present of the used paper. The pulp is pumped out of the grinder after the paper is mixed with water for 45 seconds. As soon as the grinder is stopped after 45 seconds the pumps starts extracting the pulp into the container. The pump is designed specifically for the pulp extraction. The pulp is the added to a container where it is again mixed with water.  The time of the grinding is controlled through Arduino and relay. The pulp is then into the shape of paper through the conveyor belt as the width of the belt is that of an A4 paper. The conveyor belt carries the pulp towards the heating system where the pulp is dried into the sheets of recycled paper. The heating system dries the sheet of paper and the recycled paper is received at the output.

Project Objectives

The machine will be able to recycle paper from used paper. Due to its compact size it will be available for domestic and commercial use. It is an autonomous machine which reduces human effort and covers all of the paper recycling processes in different modules.

Project Implementation Method

Shredding: the paper is first shredded into fine chunks first with the help of a shredder. the shredded paper makes good quality pulp which in turn makes a good quality recycled paper.

Grinding: Blender is used for the grinding of the paper and pulp making. Pulp is a paste which makes the paper. The grinder beat the paper chunks with water and for 45seconds. The grinding makes the pulp ready

Soaking: the pulp is soaked so that pulp is evenly distributed, for the paper production. The soaking in done in a container. The soaking process determines the volume and weight of the paper.

Molding:  in the molding the pulp is shaped into a paper size by putting the pulp on the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt’s width is kept as the size of A4 paper. For conveyor net cloth is used so that pulp doesn’t stick to its surface.

Heating:  the heating process of the machine makes  sure that the pulp is  dried properly so that the paper quality is maintained.

Benefits of the Project

The benefits of the project are as follows:

1: recycling of the used paper.

2: Can help significantly in saving trees.

3: can be implemented in schools and offices for the daily recycling of paper.

4: for different security reasons paper is burnt as it may contain different sensitive information. By implementing the project, we can help these paper recycle and make them re-useable.

5: can be easily operated by a single person.

6: reduces human efforts.

7: recycled paper can be further recycled after usage.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

the machine will accept used paper as input and shredder will convert it into fine pieces of chunks. this shredded paper will be coverted into pulp as the specified amount of water and binding glue added to it. the pulp is then transfered to a container from where it will be settled for its width. the dried paper quality is determined through the amount of shredding and  beating in the grinding process. the thickness of paper is determined through the viscocity of the pulp and its mixture with water in the container. the heating process also determines the quality of paper. sow heating results in a good quality paper which is then removed from the conveyor belt.
