Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject SummaryIn this project our main aim is help tourists especially the international arrivals who come to our country to visit historical sites by using Augmented Reality, Pakistan has some very famous ancient historical sites and attract significant foreign tourist to them, but these tourists face a lot of problems when they visit these sites as most of the times there are not any educated tourist guides to guide them and most of these fake guides are after their money and cannot explain the history of sites. our project is creation of an android mobile application which will use Augmented reality technology to help these tourists, through the use of this application users will be able to augment some of these historical sites artificially in the real world using their phones, after augmenting these 3D models they will also be able to access information about these sites in English and understand the text as English is an international language, the application could also be used by locals and also in classrooms to give the students a better idea about the historical sites.

Our project core functionality is use of Augmented Reality to display 3D models of some of the most important historical sites in the real physical world, users will be able to use their phones to learn about these sites whenever they want to free of cost. Application will use a 2D image of the site to Augment 3D models over the image.
Benefits of the Project- The main beneficiaries of this AR application will be tourists especially the ones coming from abroad, the application will allow them to learn about the significance of the historical sites without paying any fee to some guide, it will also allow them to learn about the ever-increasing significance of Augmented reality.
- It could also be beneficial for education purposes as lecturers who are teaching students about history of the archeological sites can much better explain the historical sites if they display them is 3D in real world.
Augmented Reality technology imposes a virtual 3D generated object in the real-world physical space, it is an improved form of the real physical space, which is attained by using digital graphical components, provided by the AR technology. Interest in AR is growing at an exponential rate in companies especially associated with working on mobile applications, these companies want users to have the ability to have a real-life experience with their products which are generated virtually on mobile phones of their users and customers so that they can think about their products easily, quickly and on the spot before buying the real product, thereby increasing business potential. There are a number of ways to implement AR , out application uses Image based AR.
Image based AR- our Augmented Reality application will use image recognition to generate 3D models of historical sites virtually in real world, users will scan a 2D image in real world using mobile phone camera and then the 3D model of that historical site which we have created will be displayed on it, users will be able to look the model from different sides by moving their mobile phone cameras around the image to look at the model of the site from different angles. Models of the sites have been creatd by us using Blender software.
