Optimization of 3 Traffic Signals of Peshawar
The summary of the project is to work on the traffic management system in metropolitan area which is to improve urban traffic flow within the available and existing urban infrastructure by adapting various traffic management techniques.
The traffic signals at the signalized intersections of Old Shami Road, New Shami Road and Warsak Road intersections have exceeded their green time capacities and now these are often kept off in peak hours at morning and evening time as these signals are of no use and non functional. For this, it is to optimize the signals so as to increase its green time capacity for all directions in a best possible way.
1.To improve urban traffic infrastructure within the existing infrastructure.
2.To minimize average queue length, delay time, waiting time and fuel consumption leading to environmental pollution as well
3.To make full use of the already installed signals in more affective way.
For the project to be implemented practically, it is to obtain and collect traffic volumes data plus the various dimensions of the roadway at intersection points. The peak hour traffic flow volumes are to be calculated for consecutive 3 weekdays at morning and evening.
After all the required and necessary calculations, it has to be simulated and analyzed by means of a software. The PTV Vissim software will be used for this purpose which is a microscopic multimodal sofrware package of PTV group. It gives an affective representation of the actual field conditions.
The overall cost can be reduced much as traffic signal optimization is an economical and cost effective traffic management technique. There is no need of structural or pavement redesign like increasing roadway width or number of lanes.
Similarly, it the project will lead to reduction in fuel consumption of the vehicles which will reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases upto a large extent and will play an efficient role in controlling the climate change
The traffic signal optimization will help in the reduction of delays of traffic and the reduction of long queue lengths. Moreover, it will be also used for smooth flow of traffic without traffic congestion.
The optimization will help in the improvement of level of service of Road and in the smooth flow of traffic.
