Project Title

Object detection using RFID scanning and mobile application

Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject Summary

This project proposes a system that is capable of finding lost
objects. This system is portable due to its mobile application. Any object (which contains an RFID Tag) which appears on the map can be accessed directly with the application. Using a mobile application multiple objects can be manipulated at a single time without any interruptions.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is now one of the fastest expanding sectors of the technology industry. It aids in the detection and recognition of things by using RFID’s unique identifier. For many years, the concept of RFIDs and their application in various aspects of life,
such as finding lost goods on shelves, tables, and so on, have been scrutinized.

An integrated circuit (IC), an antenna, and a substrate make up RFID tags. The RFID inlay is the portion of an RFID tag that stores the identification information. A scanning antenna, a transceiver, and a transponder are the three components of every RFID system. An RFID reader or interrogator is created when the scanning antenna and transceiver are coupled. It transmits impulses that activate the tag via radio waves. When the tag is turned on, it transmits a wave back to the antenna, which is converted into data. The RFID tag contains the transponder. The read range of RFID tags varies depending on a number of parameters, including the type of tag, reader, RFID frequency, and interference from the surroundings or other RFID tags and readers.

For finding objects tags placed or attached to specific objects transmit radio waves which will then reach the RFID sensor which has the capability of identifying the transmitted signals then returning the identified information to the database and later on showing the object on the map. In case of any hurdles between objects and sensors, it will automatically manage its range to detect the appropriate object present in the database. The mobile application also allows
searching the wanted objects in need of time. And the most important is the components we are using I-e Arduino RFID Sensors etc.

Project Objectives

This project focuses on the hardware and software implementation of the object detection system, leading from simulation to the final Hardware product. The main objectives of this project are detailed as follows:

  1. Design a MATLAB algorithms to interface microcontroller board RFID scanner and maintain a database.
  2. Implement security system to maintain privacy for location of the hidden objects.
  3. Optimize the RF power based scanning of line of sight in presence of hurdles.
  4. Implement GPS map for the location of the objects.
Project Implementation Method

Simulation:

For simulation, we will be using proteus because of its flexibility and availability of various tools and libraries for the initial sketch of the circuit.

Implementation of hardware:

MATLAB is a programming platform designed specifically for engineers and scientists to analyze and design systems and products that transform our world.

Using MATLAB we can interface our main hardware board (Arduino). Which will enable all the systems which will later be used to operate our sensor. We will test our hardware using two ways

1.         Using MATLAB (using MATLAB support package for Arduino)

2.         Using Arduino IDE (using Code)

Hardware Requirements:

Switching from simulation to real-world implementation in the hard form. We will repeat the steps same as we have done in the simulation. We will first establish the connection between the sensor and our appropriate hardware board (Arduino) and tags will be attached to the objects that have to be detected. We will be using Arduino UNO or MEGA, RFID Sensor (RC522 for short-range and Nrf24l01 for long-range), RFID tags or chips.

Software Implementation:

All the data obtained and extracted from RFID Scanner will be sent to a mobile application which enables the user to interact with different objects and search them in the map which is linked with the application.

In the initial stage, it will only detect the appropriate tags and then respond to the sensor.

Later on, it will be working according to the block diagram.'Object detection using RFID scanning and mobile application' _1659394113.png

Benefits of the Project

1) RFID is a new technology which can save time, and we're living in 21st of century so we've to be fast as others because it's an era of fast world, every second of our life has a great importance so with the use of RFID in our daily life we can save our lots of time which is otherwise get wasted by finding out the missing or lost objects of our common use.

2) We can use RFID anywhere anytime like at home, company, factory, workshops, warehouse, offices, laboratory, labs, etc. just because of RFID sometimes you've to look after those small things which are temporarily missing.

3) Further RFID is a portable device that you can carry so easily with you anywhere you want, it's not that big or heavy. RFID is just a small device which is directly connected to your mobile phone/ laptops/ PCs.

4) Here are some examples of utility of RFID, you can use RFID to find out books in the library, you can use this to find out the chemicals in the labs or other components, in household you can find out daily use things with the help of RFID, at work place/ office you can find out missing files or documents moreover at workshops or warehouses you can find out very small parts or other things which is missing.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

As we are using RFID Scanner using mobile application for searching objects. Our application can help us taking entries from users. In which user can enter for their own choice. it will be able create map and security system as we have to find the lost objects so there should be a database which is secured and can only be access by only specified user and after scanning it will generate a link that will lead to a mapping system which will be showing the exact position of the object we lost. It will also give some enhanced features like smart scanning like we will be operating multiple RFID tags at the same time that will be stocked in the same place. RFID scanner will be also looking towards hurdle sensing and RDID. Our mobile application is user-friendly.
