Modelling, control and simulation of DC microgrid for maritime applications
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe recent trends to design more efficient and versatile maritime (both marine and offshore) vessels have attracted significant attention toward high penetration of power electronics systems in electric ship systems, which trigged a variety of power system architectures in civilian and naval ships. The avail- ability of advanced power electronics converters further supported to improve maneuverability, efficiency, and compactness at reduced greenhouse gas emission in marine vessels. The fast-growing penetration of these power electronics converters adds a number of advantages to the ship power system. However, risk factors associated with the quality and reliability of the whole system should be considered. Power quality issues in marine networks have been reported from recent field accidents, therefore, the marine regulatory bodies need to revise and/or develop new power quality standards to ensure the reliability and scrutinize the safety of the whole ship system and crews. This paper presents 1) a classification of marine vessels and their power system
Project ObjectivesThe Safe and efficient operation of Maritime Micro-grids under variation is one of our primary concerns.
Project Implementation MethodSingle bus micro-grid uses the renewable resources such as wind, solar(PV) panel, and Diesel Fuel to generate the electricity. utility grid is used for the energy storage, wind turbine supply power generated to the dc loads, similarly PV panels supply the power generated to the single phase loads, and Diesel Generators supply the power generated to the 3 phase loads.
Benefits of the ProjectThe benefits are:
1- Supplanting massive ferromagnetic transformers with minimized force electronic convertor.
2- Similar equal association or disengagement for DC power sources.
3- Disposal of consonant and lopsidedness issues.
4- End of synchronization issues.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableAn effective hybrid DC System for maritime purposes.
1- First of all rectifier is designed for conversion of AC to DC.
2- Then Inverter is designed for DC to AC for further processing.
3- That AC is fed to PMSM for main propulsion.
