Project Summary

Portable Semi Automated Plastic Waste Injection Molding Machine is effective for recycling of domestic thermoplastic waste to produce mini sized plastic products and eliminate the chances of life threat to sea and other water related living things. As in Pakistan mostly plastic waste is to be thrown in sea water and in other water flowing sources/reservoirs, therefore development of this project justifies the “Sustainable Development Goal” term because it utilizes the domestic plastic waste to produce recycled mini sized plastic products instead of consumption natural sources of plastic. Model of this project will be comprised of different parts such as screw, fixed mold and moving mold. These parts will have to sustain thermal stresses due to their contact with molten plastic material during production phase, that’s why while manufacturing and installation of these above parts creep strength of their material is of more importance to be focused.

 Conclusively it can be predicted that after development / completion of this project production of thermo plastic products will help us to save living creatures of sea because these creatures may use the plastic particles as their feed and get affects over their lives. This recycling of plastic waste also helps us to save the environment to become contaminant due to decomposition of plastic waste. Proposed model will help to develop a new recycling technique and also provide a platform to reuse the domestic and industrial waste of thermoplastic products for manufacturing of mini sized domestic and industrial plastic items.

  1. Electric heater-Temperature source is used to heat the molten plastic.
  2. Temperature sensors-sense the temperature of the melt plastic.
  3. Microcontroller- It be used to control the movement of dynamic mold.
  4. Stepper motor-Motor is used to rotate the spiral shaft.

  2. To manufacture bi-products of plastic by implementing recycling techniques of plastic waste.
  3. Utilizing more wasted plastic and save natural and primary plastic’s raw material resources.
  4. To produce different structured products by providing cavities according to required object in mould.
  5. To minimize the working load on the plastic manufacturing industries by manufacture mini sized plastic items at domestic level.
  6. Estimating the cost savings by manual and automated working strategies/infrastructure.

  2. During the manufacturing of plastic products through this project it is necessary to focus its performance and efficiency with minimum wastage of end products.
  3. R&D required for some advanced features like automatic heating source for melting the plastic waste to required level without affecting the structure of different parts of machine..
  4. Developed model will be operated with necessary safety measures for its protection from hazards of explosion.
  5. Development of model will be carried out in such a way that it produces the maximum productivity as per required accurate specification and according to market demands.
  6. Proper setup for marketing this solution for national and international level for elimination of production load over plastic industries and safety of environment is also of worth.
  7. Global sales setups will be developed to achieve targeted sales and enhancement of business of manufactured small plastic products will also be focused.

  1. Semi-automated systems can move through processes without interruption.
  2. Properly maintained automated systems would operate continuously, resulting in better per-unit production and quick order completion.

Reduced labor costs:

  1. PLC systems can handle work that previously required multiple people to do, allowing facilities to take on more orders with less staff members.
  2. Lower direct labor costs and associated expense reductions ultimately result in lower overall project costs.

More sustainable fabrication:

  1. Automated machines create high volumes of products with low error rates, they generate less waste from rejected or deformed parts.
  2. Recycling of domestic plastic waste will be carried out for manufacturing of micro sized domestic items without less consumption of natural plastic resources.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The system is fully based on 3rd evaluation level of Mechatronics (Industrial –based technologies) like automation based. The project’s technical flow will be as under; -

  1. On physical layer various types of temperature sensors and pressure detectors will be used to sense the temperature of molten plastic material and pressure of actuating system respectively.
  2. Microcontrollers will be used to collect those sensing data from various    sensors and transfer these data in the form of signals towards controller.
  3. PLC store the data and give the signals to the motors (actuators) for operation of moving parts of the developed machine.
