MAIL SORTING MACHINE BASED ON POSTAL CODE DETECTION
Our project addresses the problem of a manual mail sorting system and the transformation of a manual system mail sorting system into an automatic mail sorting system based on postal code detection. Mostly the postal systems in various areas of Pakistan are still manually operated for mail categorization, processing, and delivery. It’s been experimental that the sorting and processing by humans have many disadvantages like human blunders, processing time consumption and especially more workforce is obligatory. In our Plan, we projected to recommend an Automatic Mail Sorting System Based on postal code detection which would eradicate human errors, reduce the mail sorting time, and requires the least manpower. We projected a fully automated processing technique involving Optical Character Recognition (OCR) method (Image processing). The emergence of OCR has provided a key for automatic postal address interpretation. In this technique, a camera is used to capture the images of postal envelopes, and then the OCR method is applied for the recognition of postal codes. Our study, therefore, is an intended and developed idea for automated sorting of mails through a conveyor belts which would be controlled by programmable Arduino UNO, which is an open-source hardware and software project, and user community that designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building digital devices. Current OCR techniques comprise three consecutive steps. These are: image processing also called pre-processing, classification of characters, and contextual post-processing. Supporting experimental attempt was considered useful in each of these steps and is presented next. This new technique presents the ease to affirm a good coherence between various modules and additionally it decreases both the time of processing and the refusal rate.
The major objective of this project is to reduce human effort and error but replacing human force with an automatic mail sorting machine. Automatic Mail sorting systems are essential for companies with a high supply capacity and short time-to-deliver and courier companies need to increase the quality and reliability of their services as the Customers request faster distributions of things. In many courier companies, Mails sorting and placing on their particular site is done manually which seems complex and takes time so we have decided to offer comfort to courier companies by implementing a system that does all this work without the intrusion of the human beings.
Primarily image of an envelope or mail is taken by means of a camera and treated separately. The captured picture is referred to the Tesseract Software. Tesseract is an optical character recognition (OCR) engine for various OSs (operating systems). This Software is released under the Apache License for feature extraction and pattern recognition. To accomplish this the Ultrasonic sensors are used to detect an envelope and the stationary camera in order to capture the image. In the primary phase, the Mail Sorting Optical Character Recognition Algorithms for Post Code Recognition Envelope Detection & Post Code Extraction Image Acquisition system work in a way that the Mail packets are approached on the conveyer belt when the envelope enters into the range of Ultrasonic sensors, the Ultrasonic sensors sense an envelope and system produce interrupt signal. Due to interrupt signal the conveyer image of a Mail envelope. In order to further process, the image for extraction of the postcode shows the image of an envelope which is captured from the fixed camera.
The automatic mail sorting machine can replace a human and reduce the human effort from the trivial task of sorting the parcels. Our designed machine uses the concepts of image processing to achieve this task.
We have designed a mail sorter which is consist of a conveyer belt mounted with a couple of cameras and separators to separate the parcels.
