Locust Free Field with an Agricultural Robot
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryLocust Free Field with Agricultural Robot (Agrobot)
Agriculture is the main source of national income for most developing countries like Pakistan. Agriculture is considered as the backbone of Pakistan's economy. Unfortunately, the agriculture sector in Pakistan faces major challenges, including depleting water resources, lack of technological innovation, low-quality seeds, and input supply etc. Among these major issues Locust attack is considered as the most severe and the worst problem that have ever experienced. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Pakistan's 38% of agriculture fields are breeding grounds for the insects. So, the locusts attack may have caused financial loss worth 600 billion rupees ($3.72 billion).
Unsatisfied with the government efforts, farmers are using traditional but futile ways to get rid of insects. In remote parts of Punjab, and Balochistan, farmers beat drums to keep the insect away. In other parts, they use smoke to cut the oxygen supply to insects. Experts, however, believe that these desperate attempts have hardly any effect on the locusts. So, in this project we are going to propose the possible solution for this devastating problem.
This project strives to develop a system that is dealing with the audible frequency of the locust. We are going to make a system that contain an artificial Chemical Smoke Fog Sprayer with the intense ginger smell that will keep the locust away, an alarm whose frequency will be matched with the audible frequency of locust that is 1–30 kHz. Locust hearing is sensitive over at least 1–30 kHz.
Another effort that we are going to make in order to make this system smart is a robot capable of performing operations like automatic ploughing, seed dispensing and pesticide spraying.
Agrobot is a machine that can be controlled by the human
operator for making work more easy and accurate.
Agriculture has been chosen as a topmost occupation in the
world for more than 42% of the total population and that is
why the demand for autonomous vehicles has been
increasing day-by-day.
- Objectives of this work is to increase the production efficiency in agricultural field by developing Locust free Field and agricultural robot and which has the capability of processing and monitoring field operations like spraying remedies for precision farming, fertilization, yield analysis, soil analysis and other agricultural activities.
- The goal of Agricultural robot is to perform agricultural operations such as ploughing the field, seeds dispensing, spraying fertilizers, and controlled use of fertilizers and pesticides. The agricultural scientists are experimenting to replace tractor driven mechanization with robotic agriculture by introducing “AGROBOT”. Electricity for this can be obtained from renewable energy resources like solar energy. Thus this robot is a clean energy-based farmer-friendly device. The main purpose of this project is to increase the productivity of agricultural land.
- In this project we are going to propose the possible solution for agricultural problems. One of the main issue Agriculture sector is facing is the Locust Attack.
This project gives out a system that is dealing with the audible frequency of the locust. The project we are going to build will consist of two parts:
- an artificial Chemical Smoke Fog Sprayer with the intense ginger smell that will keep the locust away
- an alarm whose frequency will be matched with the audible frequency of locust that is 1–30 kHz. Locust hearing is sensitive over at least 1–30 kHz
After setting the buzzer's frequency range and smoke producer, it will be incul on the towers and these towers will be inculcate in the boundaries of the field.
In this way we can save our field from the locust attack.
Another effort that we are going to make in order to make this system smart is a robot capable of performing operations like automatic ploughing, seed dispensing and pesticide spraying.
Agrobot is a machine that can be controlled by the human
operator for making work more easy and accurate.The main component here is the AVR At mega microcontroller that supervises the entire process.
The connection of wheel stand and DC
gear motor for wheel rotation with AGROBOT body using
Aluminum sheet. Then, the connection of the servo motor
has been done with the AGROBOT body for moving for plougher.
We are making the system as simple as possible and keeping the total cost in a budget-friendly limit, so that traditional farmers may find it cheap and user-friendly.
Benefits of the Project- Agrobot operates 24/7, which increases the efficiency of the use of agricultural equipment;
- It reduces the costs of farmers and agroholdings for fuel;
- It optimizes the cost of maintaining equipment;
- It increases yields, and also contributes to the development of agricultural land in areas remote from infrastructure and in difficult climatic conditions.
- It saves the field from the devastating plague of locusts.
- The main purpose of this project is to increase the productivity of agricultural land.
- Electricity for this can be obtained from renewable energy resources like solar energy. Thus this robot is a clean energy-based farmer-friendly device.
In agrobot, wheels will rotate through dc motor.
It's plougher will run by high torr servo motor so that it may not stop during heavy ploughing duty.
There will be a sprinkler on agrobot that will sprinkle water or pesticides or any spray needed.
It will also contain a seed despenser and that despenser will also run through servo motor.
Similarly with locust free system.
