The bikes have gone from being an old-fashioned recreational product to a less polluting means of transport and a compact, ultra-light personal mobility tool. This is how electrical bikes will be used as a pillar that could support individual public transport in large cities worldwide. In this work we will build an Electric Bike using a hub brushless motor, controller and custom made li-ion battery pack. To keep the batteries healthy and secure whilst charging and discharging a Battery Management System (BMS) will be designed and installed.

The greatest advantage of e-vehicles is that they do not use fuels such as diesel and petrol and hence do not emit fuming exhausts (these exhausts are very detrimental to health). Electric Bicycles (also known as e-bikes) are the most important vehicles under the category of electric vehicles. These are very much user-friendly for commuting within city limits. These e-bikes are basically simple bicycles fitted with an electric motor which augments its speed. Worldwide there are many types of electric bicycles ranging from the ones which have a small motor which assists in easy pedalling (less exertion) to the ones having more powerful motors which resemble very closely to mopeds shows the famous electric vehicles manufacturer Tesla’s Li-ion cells.

Project Objectives

Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries whose rate of self-discharge is quite low. They have a greater energy density and last for at least 2-3 years. Studies show that these batteries are capable of driving the e-bike at a speed of around 25 km/h for a distance of around 40-45 kilometers on one complete charge. Moreover, many of the batteries are portable. Means if you have a solar panel at home, it can be recharged by it. It implies “pure savings and nothing else”.

Benefits of the Project

Over the past few years, the sales of e-bikes have shown a remarkable increase. It is due to the host of benefits that this amazing machine offers. With the advancement in technology, more lightweight yet sturdy e-bikes come to the market. These models use more powerful motors. Modern models use better shockers as well, which helps with smoother rides. As we know the focus of every bike and vehicle manufacturing company is making their electric version. Electric vehicle uses electric motor and a battery to power the whole system. We will develop our own li-ion battery with proper management system, like over charge and over discharge protection, temperature protection and real time voltage indications. With oil prices soaring to new heights in the international market, driving cars with conventional fuels surely burns a big hole in the pocket. . E-bikes have come as a great rescue.

The most vital feature of the electric bike is that it does not consume fossil fuels thereby saving crores of foreign currencies. The second most important feature is it is pollution free, eco – friendly and noiseless in operation. For offsetting environmental pollution using of on – board Electric Bike is the most viable solution. It can be charged with the help of AC adapter if there is an emergency. Since, our bike will have less components, and everything will be modular, so the replacement and maintenance will be very easy.
