Project Summary

Underwater communication is mostly done with the help of RF and Acoustic technique. These techniques have less precision accuracy and low data rate. There is always a risk of divers working inside the water. These underwater divers are highly skilled labors, so the safety of these divers is much premium. There is always difficulty in communication to scuba divers with coordinator. So, there is a need of technology to communicate underwater accurately.   

Li-Fi is emerging technology uses LED lights to transmit data This technology leads to communication at high data rates wirelessly. LED lights for the transmission of data and photo diodes for the reception of data. Certain modulation techniques are used that enable LED lights to transmit data. Mixture of blue and green light having wavelength of 450nm can penetrate inside the water up to 200 meters.

The main purpose of the project is to make a prototype. The main feature of this prototype is text communication between diver and Oil Rig coordinator other features include Audio communication and ocean species detection using laser light. These all operations are implemented on Aquarium.

Project Objectives

Our final year project to make ensure about the communication between diver to diver and between diver to oil rig, we will design and implement a method in which there will be no more problem of lack of communication under the water. We will use VLC technique in which we will use visible light and a photodiode or may be solar penal for the communication of data. We have three objectives of this project

  • Diver communication for safety: Acoustic technique that are used now a days are very slow we need to communicate with the diver at higher data rates laser lights provide faster data rate communication between diver and network. This includes audio and text communication between diver and oil rig coordinator.
  • Sea water creature’s detection: Species that are dangerous for diver life detection must be necessary for this purpose we use two laser lights and two solar panels for detection  use laser lights in cross and in their opposite side solar panels are connected when the specie cross from the cross  solar panel gets zero another light is placed whose direction is towards diver the light is automatically on  diver detect this and do measures to save his life.

Project Implementation Method

our Project mainly consist of two parts:

  1. In our main part we will focus on the communication between scuba diver and oil Rig. In this art we will use a Laser Light and a photo diode on both sides, we will use the phenomenon of LiFi by using a lifi module and a pc. Data can be sent under water through a laser light and photo diode will sense the data which is directly attached to the other Laptop. In this way diver will be directly connected to the Oil Rig to make sure about the safety of the diver.
  2. In addition, due to the risk of attacks of dangerous sea creature we will use a detection method to detect any shark or other fish under specific area under the oil rig. We will use laser lights and solar panels in such a formation that whenever any creature cross that pacific area where diver is working due to distortion between laser light and solar panel, microcontroller module will detect the data and send a signal to another light source which is in the direction of diver. photo diode is placed on somewhere on diver which eventually gets the data and produce alarm.

Benefits of the Project

At the end of this project we willl be able to ensure the safety of scuba diver by implementing a structure in which when ever he get into trouble he can communicate with Oil rig co-ordinato. He can also communicate with other divers via audio communication. we have also implemented system for detection of aquatic creatures.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • For the audio communication between divers we have implemented circuit using a mic to covert audio signal into electrical signal then we have used an amplifier which amplifies the electrical signal then we used a modulating circuitry then we use a driver circuit to drive our lighting system. On the other hand, we have used a photodiode to detect the signal then we have amplifier circuit and then output transducer.
  • For the text communication between diver and Oil Rig coordinator we have used Arduino Uno. On the transmitter side we have used a keypad and green laser light. When ever any key is pressed laser light blinks.On receiver side we have used a photodiode and a comparator circuit which compares the laser light and send the signal to Arduino which then displays the text we just received.
  • For the detection of aquatic creatures we have used a laser light in cross manner when ever any creature cut the laser light for certain time a signal will be sent to diver about the existence of aquatic creature.
