Libraries keep books, but their existing manual process of stock taking and book placement consume lots of time and efforts to search a book at shelfs and its placing because the book arrangement is not categorized. As our existing library does not mention the location of the book and it doesn’t help to arrange the books accordingly on shelf. An existing practice makes the book arrangement as very difficult task. This may result in wastage of time and create difficulty in point out specific book. When they go for stock taking, they can’t even find most of the books and manually check for title and accession number of each book according to the book list. So, the existing method of stock taking is not efficient because it is hectic task as it consumes lots of time and manpower. The accounting of books are not done accurately. This may also result in book loss and waste of time and manpower.

Project Objectives

To keep the track of books in the library is very difficult job. The solution which has been proposed can ease that activity. Our proposed solution is to automate the process of stock verification by integrating barcode reader technology to eliminate the manual process of data entry. In our library we are going to use different Accession number as the barcode against each book. There we can also add the Rack barcode along with shelf barcode against each book’s accession number. To ease the searching and verification of existing physical books in library.

Through this solution user can also allocate the books by scanning accession no as barcode to shelf by scanning barcodes of that specific rack. When book is searched by using this app the exact location and description of the book can be easily point out. This automated process result the efficiency and accuracy of library book verification, reducing workloads of the library staffs and managing the inventory of books. This can also reduce the human interventions in the process of stock taking.

Project Implementation Method

Our library Stock Taking app helps to perform the verification of book exist physically in library with efficiency and accuracy by integrating barcode technology.

This app is going to perform the following functions:

Barcode scanning is used to automate the data entry.

Book Searching is used to verify the book status by searching its details using its accession number as barcode.

Rack Add is used to add the barcode of rack in the library by scanning barcode against each book’s barcode (Accession Number).

Shelf Add is used to add the barcode of each shelf against rack in the library by scanning barcode for each book’s barcode (Accession Number).
