Project Summary

Iris controlled wheelchair for the Partially/Fully paralyzed patient in order to provide them with the capability of mobilizing them without any care taker assistance.
An automated wheelchair's joystick module is replaced by configured raspberry pi with the implemented algorithms of eye movement techniques using a Pi cam for capturing the eye movement frames and passing the commands to H-Bridge in order to control the polarity of wheels. 

Project Objectives

  • Enabling fully/partially patients to mobilize themselves.
  • For physically challenged people & letting them move in particular directions as per eye directions. 

Project Implementation Method

  1. Configuring the raspberry pi with the algorithms of detecting of eye movement.
  2. Integrating the Automated wheelchair with configured raspberry pi.
  3. Installation of H-Bridge with the DC motors of  Wheelchair in order to control the polarity of wheelchair.
  4. Integrating the Raspberry Pi with H-bridge for execution of commands sent down to H-bridge after detecting the eye moement as per eye directions.

  • For bettering the community of paralyzed patients to provide them with mobility.
  • Where patient can move without any help of caretaker assistance with their free will.
  • For helping patients improve their state of mind with accepting the fact that they can too move without any assistance.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • A wheelchair with integrated raspberry pi installed with pi cam which can detect eye movement by using the algorithms(Open CV) with H-bridge and DC motors & mobilizing the patients as per command.
